Title: Maisson Ikkoku

Genre: Comedy/Romance

Creator: Rumiko Takahashi

Publisher Info: Viz, 14 volumes

Summary: This is the story of the tenants of Maisson Ikkoku, an apartment complex in Japan: Kyoko Otonashi (the fenale manager), Godai Yusaku (a college student), Mrs. Ichinose (a busybody), Kentaro Ichinose (her bratty son), Soichiro (Kyoko's dog), Akemi (hostess of the Happy Talk Cafe), and Mr. Yotsura (a moocher and peeping tom).

The Good: Like all of Takahashi's works, this series is full of humor. It's got nice artwork, too. The fact that she even modelled it after her own experiences in college is also a nice touch.

The Bad: It's not as action-packed as her other titles. If you like Ranma 1/2 and/or Inu-Yasha for the action, I don't recommend Maisson Ikkoku.

Offensive Material: Mild language and brief nudity. Akemi is almost always perpetually drunk, not to mention immodest. Overall:Maisson Ikkoku, like all of Takahashi's titles, is a real charmer. If you enjoy her other titles, I suggest you not forget this little-known gem. I also recommend it for fans of Tenchi Muyo!.

My Review (out of 4): 3.5 Category: B (Borderline. Parental Guidance suggested)

Note: Maisson Ikkoku is also available on DVD from Viz. Rumiko Takahashi also created Lum*Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2, and Inu-Yasha.
