Jock Cruickshank's Memories in Stories & photos
1970, SAW 37F RETURNING TO THE DEPOT, AFTER HANDING OVER TO 45 RM COMMANDO IN DUNGANNON N.IRELAND. AROUND APRIL I RECEIVED MY PAPERS FOR A POSTING TO CYPRUS, AFTER THE WEDDING OF MY FIRST WIFE. SO I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO A MARRIED POSTING. LOTS OF PICS FOLLOW OF MISC; CATTERICK & YORKSHIRE AS WELL AS RAF AKROTIRI AND THE BEAUTIFULL ISLAND OF CYPRUS.
Getting down 'n' dirty                          and we brush up nicely

This Derogatory name, according to them, Penguins, I mean RAF Personnel, has been used since WW11.
The use of it to most of them is like a
Red Rag
to a bull that is why we use it so often!
Our endurance of the term Rockapes used for and against us, never sways us, and in fact we  are rather proud of the name. All or most of the humour written about Rocks was penned by ourselves anyway.
During the early 70's when traffic departments across the UK were issued with the new signs for falling rocks, they promptly dissapeared, only to later turn up attached to the tailgate of our blue 3 tonners

The snowdrops  (RAF Police) failed to see the funny side
