Ecco un nuovo acquisto. Si tratta di un modello di KIEV IIa in versione "semplificata". Assolutamente identica alle KIEV di quel periodo, ma curiosamente sprovvista di telemetro, autoscatto e presa di sincronizzazione. La persona da cui l'ho acquistata mi ha detto trattarsi di una versione per utilizzo medico-scientifico (microscopia, endoscopia). Ciò presupporrebbe però, forse, un attacco obiettivi dedicato, non standard. Che dire poi dell'inutilità (anzi della scomodità, per un utilizzo sul microscopio) della messa a fuoco? Perchè poi lasciare la finestrella in corrispondenza dell'oculare libera, così da vederci attraverso?
Here is a new buy. It is a KIEV IIa in a simplified version. It is absolutely identical to the KIEV of that period, but it is lacking the rangefinder, self timer and flash syncro.
The person from whom I bought this camera told me that it could be a medical/scientific version (microscope or endoscopes use). But this special applications normally use a special lens adaptor and not a standard lens bayonet. Also, what about the uselessness not to say real difficulty of using the focussing system on a microscope? And more, why then leave the viewfinder window to look through ?
L' ipotesi di Albino Pegorari è invece più fantasiosa, ma senz'altro più interessante: potrebbe essere la risposta della Arsenal alla Leica M-1. Realizzare una macchina più semplice, partendo da un modello standard e "svuotandolo" di parti senz'altro costose, per offrire una macchina più economica ai fotografi disposti a fare a meno della precisione del telemetro incorporato (ricorrendo ad un telemetro esterno oppure focheggiando sulla distanza "stimata").
Anche la mancanza del meccanismo dell'autoscatto e della presa di sincronizzazione potrebbero essere espedienti per abbattere i costi di fabbricazione.
The theory that Albino Pegorari puts forward leaves more space to fantasy, but is certainly more interesting: this camera could have been Arsenal’s answer to Leica’s M1. The idea was to make a simpler camera, starting from a standard production model, eliminating some not so important functions, and thus containing costs. In this way one could offer a cheaper camera to those photographers who could do away with the built-in rangefinder precision in focussing. (they could either estimate distances or use a separate rangefinder.) Also the elimination of the self timer and the flash syncro facilities could have been a way of containing costs.
Il telemetro è completamente mancante. Dalla finestrella di destra si può osservare direttamente il retro dell'oculare, mancando l'elemento prismatico. La finestrella di sinistra è invece tappata.
The rangefinder is completely missing. From the viewfinder window on the right one can look straight through to the back, without finding the prismatic rangefinder system. The left hand side window has been firmly closed with black glass or plastic.
