THE VIENNA HIGHFLIER

These are beautiful athletic pigeons, that realy love to fly. With the correct daily training they fly to extreme heighs. Pure Vienna Highfliers fly vigorously in tight turns spiraling upwards, often in a figure eight motion. Flight time of a well trained kit is around 2-4 hours, of which most of the time must be at competition height.
These birds are flown in bigger kits, with at least 12 birds in a kit.

The record flying time in the German Highflying Club is held by a Mr.Wiegert who in 1989 with a kit of 22 birds had a flying time of 6 hours 26 minutes. In their native Vienna and in Budapest longer times has been recorded. The avarage time in competitions in Germany is 2 to 3 hours.

Although  Vienna Highfliers come in various colours, including self coloured birds the biggest portion of flying birds are blue grizzled and dubble grizzled or stork marked birds.
The true Vienna Highflier is not an endurance flier, but a very good highflier. Unfortunatly due to show breeding, many Vienna Highfliers are only that by name.
The Vienna Highflier, which are very good highfliers, and the Budapest Highflier, which is a good endurance flier, have in recent years been cross bred to get a good highflying and long flying bird. This has unfortunatly changed the flight pattern of the Vienna Highflier negatively
