The House Rules

Welcome to my home. I hope you enjoy yourselves as much as I do! Below are suggestions that will hopefully make your stay more enjoyable.   I appreciate you treating my home with respect and leaving it in good condition.

Keep an eye out for the dolphins. They make their daily parade at 6AM, 1PM and 6PM.

If you are not using the lights, please turn them off.

Looking for a fun time, including karaoke (Fri/Sat nights only), pool, good food and drinks, with the entire family try Bob’s Sports Bar 684-4929 .  An excellent seafood restaurant with a spectacular view of the Intercoastal Canal is Stingerees 684-2731.  A good, down-home breakfast buffet is available at Bay Ridge Café 684-3833 (right down the street).

Please park in the designated areas only:  Septic and water systems are buried in the front/ other side yard.  Do not move the poles or drive in the dunes.  Those areas are strictly off limits!

Please leave the nice furniture inside. Use the plastic tables and chairs outside.  Nothing from the cabin should be taken to the beach – not even the plastic furniture!

If you must smoke, do it outside. Please place those nasty butts in your beer/coke can or use one of the ashtrays.  Do not throw them in the yard. They are not biodegradable.  All cigarette butts must be thrown in the trash before you leave.

PLEASE USE THE OUTDOOR/DOWNSTAIRS SHOWER EVERY TIME WHEN RETURNING FROM THE BEACH AND BEFORE ENTERING THE HOUSE - UPSTAIRS OR DOWNSTAIRS.  THE GOAL IS TO MINIMIZE SAND IN ANY ENCLOSED AREA (including the inside, downstairs shower).  Utilizing the outdoor shower will also make your checkout cleanup easier.

Please do not lower the upstairs a/c thermostat below 72 degrees.  Doing so will only freeze up the unit and will be useless and I get your deposit. The same thing with the window units - if the windows have condensation on them, you probably need to raise the thermostat. When you leave the house, please raise the thermostat on central unit, turn off the A/C units as well as the lights, TV and stereo.  The peninsula is prone to blackouts; these electrical devices contribute to the blackouts and we all hate to be without our AC and ice.

Keeping the front door closed and the fans on the low setting all the time will go a long way in keeping the cabin comfortable.

Be careful when you walk to the beach and in the yard --- Stickersouch!! Wear shoes.

For a short trip take the kids for a ferry ride. Unless you plan to do site seeing in Galveston, a smart thing to do is to park and ride. Don’t forget to bring some bread for the seagulls.

BULLFROG is the best sunscreen by far and a little bit goes a long way.  Wearing a hat & sunglasses will help minimize sun exposure to your face.

Don’t let the kiddies play outside in the heat of the day. Heatstroke is a very real thing.  Drink plenty of water!

Please keep feminine napkins, tampons, diapers and paper towels out of the toilet. It is not a pretty site. The plumber has to come out and there goes your deposit!

Please try to restrict your eating to the tables and kitchen areas.  It will make clean up easier.  Make sure you check underneath the beds before you leave.  You won’t believe some of the things I have found!

Best deal in town for ice: Steve’s Fresh Seafood will fill a 50qt-ice chest for $3.00, 100qt for $5.00, and 150qt for $7.00.  Only place to buy bulk ice on the peninsula.  Beats paying $1.25 at the store for a small bag.  Let Wiley/Mary know Karen suggested you stop by. Oh yea, you also get great prices on really fresh seafood here too!

Keep the BBQ pits on the ground level. It is against the Galveston County Fire Code to have them on the deck.  Please pull the pits out from underneath the deck onto the grass area for grilling.

Did you know baby oil or even Shout gets beach tar right off your feet?

I sure hope you have a great time in my home. In fact, I would love to have you back.  I will try to keep everyone up to date on any off season specials and even perhaps a free weekend for two sometime during the year.

The last guest left the cabin in great shape for your stay. Please be considerate and do the same for my next guests.  Cleaning supplies are under the kitchen and bathroom sinks. Let me know when you use the last of something – please and thank you.

If you have any suggestions how I can make your future visits more pleasant, please let me know via email (bluewater92@ev1.net).
Have a great stay.
