  Robert Burnard bought his family to Adelaid, South Australia in early 1840, barely three years after the colony was proclaimed. He worked as a Limner  (portrait painter) and several of his paintings are retained by his descendents.

A house painter who lived in Francis Street, Truro, Cornwall.
Travelled around Cornwall doing portrait paintings.
Applied for assisted free passage to South Australia
Departed Plymouth with wife and family on the JAVA
Arrived Port Adelaide with wife and 6 children.
Lived at Plympton.
Continued portrait painting and taught art.
Died, buried in West Terrace Cemetery
