His scientific work has taken him to universities, industry, government, high school teaching and consultancy assignments. One advantage of working in research and in a Third World country has been the wide variety of subjects he is exposed to. For instance, in Sri Lanka he has been able to indulge his interest in the indigenous orchids of the country while studying its highly fascinating stock market! He has, also, served for a spell as Environmental and Landscaping Consultant to a governmental body concerned with Sri Lanka's (Archaeological and) Cultural Sites.
