About Rohingya Radio

 tell a friend

Rohingya Radio is a new addition of www.rohingya.com which is nothing but a continuation of Arakan Rohingya National Organisation (ARNO)'s effort to bring justice and peace to its people.

According to the 1947 Constitution, a group of people who entered Burma before 1825 and settled in a defined territory are also indigenous race of Burma. This clause was especially written for Rohingya people, said Dr. Aye Maung, one of the author of the 1947 constitution. Accordingly U Nu government recognized Rohingya as an indigenous race of Burma. Their language was aired from 1961 to 1965. U Soe Shwe Thaike, the First President of the Union of Burma also told, while he was in the highest office, that Rohingya is an indigenous race as he himself, and there is no difference between Rohingya and Shan in the case of nationality.

The Rohingyas were and are subjected to worse human right violation since the beginning of the Military rule in Burma. General Ne Win and his Revolutionary Council and Burma Socialist Programme Party , made it a policy to suppress and oust the Rohingya Muslims out of the country. They have engaged their policies as follows:

Step1: Declared the Rohingyas as aliens and restricted their movements.

Step2: Arakanese administration was Buddhaised, expelling the Muslim or transferring them to out of the places, and thus reduced their number day by day.

Step3: Banned all Rohingya socio-cultural organisations and the Rohingya language programme broadcast from Rangoon Radio (BBS) was also discontinued.

Step4. Alone with the above the Military government also perpetrated oppressions against the Rohingya Muslims. Police and army personals entered into the house of prominent Muslims, made arrests indiscriminately, extorted money, insulted women and harassed and tortured all who opposed them in their illegal and inhuman activities.

Under the above circumstances the Rohingyas had no alternative but to leave the country in search of safety.

In order to retain and regain our rights we at ARNO established the Rohingya Radio online and one day we hope to air Rohingya Radio in the traditional fashion.

Thank you for listening to Rohingya Radio.

Assalamu Alikum to all the Rohingya Brothers and Sisters.

We at Arakan Rohingya National Organisation (ARNO) are very excited to bring you this news service. It is needless to state the discrimination, criminal atrocities and torture the Burmese military SPDC (State Peace and Development Council) subjects upon us as you might be one of the millions of the victims.

Many of you know that there existed a Rohingya Language Programme relayed twice a week  from the Burma Broadcasting Service (BBS), Rangoon. But it was cancelled  in 1965, by the military regime, without any reason. The military has subjected our peace-loving people to large- scale political and religious  persecution, arrest and detention, expulsion, mass destruction, loot, rape, murder, inhuman torture and other grave human rights violations. The military autocratic rule has trampled down all our fundamental human rights and freedom. They have denied our right to live peacefully and honourably in our historical homeland of Arakan and reduced us to a position of stateless.

I am very happy and proud to announce the opening of Rohingya Radio which
objective is to bring news and information about Arakan and  Burma and the top news of the hour to our people in our own language.  Insha-Allah, this Rohingya Radio will serve as a main means of communicating with large numbers of people. This is but a
continuation of ARNO's struggle to bring justice and peace to its people.

I wish Rohingya Radio  best of luck and progress.

Wassalam

Nurul Islam
President
Arakan Rohingya National Organisation
Arakan.

Dated  13th August 2001.

Rohingya Radio would not be a reality today without the extended help of many Rohingyas. We at ARNO like to thank them all for their cooperation and encouragement.

We are highly thankful to Brother Shobu for his contribution of the songs and giving permission to distribute it freely.
