SMALL CAGED PETS

This is a tribute to our small pets.  I felt they deserved their own mini page, since they do, after all, share our home, even if they do not interact with us to the same degree as our larger "primary" pets.  Partly this is due to time constraints.  While they are each capable of a greater degree of socialization than we currently bestow on them, they are all semi-tame and we care for them and keep them for the visual enjoyment they provide.  It is fascinating that creatures of this size are equipped with all the biological systems of their larger cousins.  They basically go about their own lives in the "world within a world" environments we have provided for them.

Winged Things
This is Pretty Bird and Sun Bird, our two parakeets, occupying their favorite perches atop the bedroom window curtain rod, during their daily "free flight time."

Update: Poor poor Pretty Bird, my only parakeet to ever begin to learn to speak, met the same fate as my first parakeet, Emerald, a bird-sitting charge who became permanently mine when her owner moved.  Both were eaten by cats and both fell victim during the confusion of a house move.

Pretty Bird's successor is LemonAndLime, a green and yellow parakeet (seen at right and above right with Sun Bird the survivor.) The birds now have a giant aviary (aka my new huge office.)  They have lots of flight room, three windowsills to perch on as well as indoor trees, both real and artificial.  But their favorite perch remains the chandalier.
