Physical Description: Height is varying rapidly, as he is currently going through a growth spurt, putting him at about 5'10" at the present time.  Goddess only knows how tall he's going to be when he gets done.  His shoulders are also broadening and he is developing body hair.  As his desert people tend to favor more hair on the head and face and less on the body, he is praying that the hair quits growing before his body does.  Otherwise he is limber and possessed more of a rider/runner physique (he is not a miner or field laborer).  He wears loose-fitting, serviceable clothing in the neutral colors of the desert, but fine in quality.  He has silvery-gray wing markings that run from shoulder to wrist on each arm.

Personality: Heru is a proud and solemn young man, serious about his studies-no matter the subject-and very conscious of the burden of duty and honor.  He has always done his best to be a "good son" to his father (though lately he has been questioning privately the moral validity of the trade upon which his family's fortune is made) and to look out for his younger brother and sister.  Far from being too "book-bound," the rigors of learning his father's trade have given him experience surviving in harsh conditions, defending himself and others agains desert bandits, and dealing successfully with a variety of people.  He is an adept, if somewhat distant, communicator.  He has a capacity for independent thought which to date he has been hiding from his father and he feels somewhat guilty about this.
Likes: The feeling of wind in his hair, riding fast on horseback (currently the closest he can get to flying), a challenging negotiation, the nuances of law, his family.
Dislikes: Feeling stagnated, being referred to as "a mere boy," internal conflict (you can't just resolve it with the law, haggling, or a sword).
Fears: failing his father--but also succeeding in following him.

Brief History: Heru is the scion of his family-the firstborn son and heir to his father's lucrative slave trading business.  Though the Goddess is also revered in the desert, the reality of desert life is harsh and the physical strength and hardiness of men is heavily relied upon for day-to-day survival.  Heru therefore has been raised to understand both the privileges of being the eldest son and the obligations to the family that come with such a position.  Trained in the many aspects of the slave trade, Heru had recently been allowed to begin representing his father in trade and contract negotiations and present in court with him when conflicts arose.  He was also trained in the more distasteful (from his perspective, at least) aspects of the business, such as the inspection, procurement, and breeding of human slaves. One moon ago, Heru was accompanying his father home from a recent trading expedition when their caravan was attacked by bandits.  Though they had dealt with such a threat before, this group seemed particularly vicious and Heru began to fear for their lives.  Seeing a brigand coming up behind his father, he mde a prayer for the speed to reach him and strength to save him--and found himself caught up in a small "dust devil" that whipped him to his father's side before pushing the offender to the sand.  Placing his sword at the man's throat, Heru demanded his name and discovered this was the group's leader.  He then negotiated a truce: they would spare his life and he and his band would leave them in peace ever after.  Terrified by the show of power over the wind, the man babbled his oath and took his bandits away from the traders.

Upon returning home, the family's body slaves discovered winglike markings on the youth's arms which had not been there before while attending him at his bath.  Noting the change with pride rather than disgust, the elder Al-Sahar sent word to the newly formed Fifth Council and received a letter of acceptance soon after.  Heru boarded the ship bound for Silinis Isle, hoping that his education there will help him control and develop his talents--and give him enough time to resolve his conflicts about the path his father has set for his life.
