We no longer keep these birds, but have found these birds non aggressive and kept well with Goldens, Yellow Goldens, Cheer, Temminck Tragopans and some Partridge. During breeding season they of course were kept as pairs if you desire parent raised birds, but we did house a pair of Philby Partridge with them. |

Being from a warm climate they handle the extreme cold temperatures of Indiana well and are the first to lay in the early spring. With plenty of cover and shade they seem to enjoy spending much time under their favorite bush where they have hollowed out a spot for their dust bath. Some of the grains they like are given freely such as the variety mixed seed and grain for bird feeders which include millet, milo, black oil sunflower seeds, and their maintenance and breeder pellets. They are strictly a grain bird but do occasionally eat bread in the winter months. Their chicks are difficult to rear and mealworms should be given for extra protein. Every hen that we have had has set her own eggs and usually rears her second clutch with the males help. Incubation time is 24-25 days. |
