SHIPPING BOXES/SAFETY
I have taken some photos of a Horizon box that was sent to me in 2002, which I paid 10.00 for, and one that should never have been reused. Not sure what can be done to teach people about safe and healthy transport of live animals, but this was sent to me by an individual that has been in birds much longer than I. Not only the condition of the box, but there was no bedding, built-up droppings on the inside and outside of the box, no apple, no wedge of lettuce for the birds comfort in transport, nothing. This causes undo stress not having moisture or something to help the bird(s) occupy its time while in the box.  This is not in the best interest of the bird(s) shipped and is inexcusable.

The people at my local post office were upset with me when some of the pigeon droppings flaked off the outside of the box on the Express clerks desk prior to me picking my bird up. I was ashamed and apologetic. Pass this on to your bird friends so this will not happen to anyone else.

OUR SHIPPING BOXES
The boxes I use are sterile heavy duty cardboard, they are turned inside out, so no writings show from a company or grocery store.  The bottom of the box is hot glued, holes are drilled, labels put in place, and dividers placed when needed. It takes me 20 minuets to complete one box.  My time, my hot glue, and other components, plus the knowledge that this box will safely make any trip to any location. Surely my time is worth $10 bucks to do a box and will easily ship two birds.  No one making their own box is getting rich on their boxes, trust me.  I have never had a complaint on my homemade boxes, but actually I have gotten more compliments on the boxes I use and the way they are presented. One gentleman in Michigan and another in Pennsylvania taught me how to build sturdy boxes many years ago and I still Thank them for their guidance.
1 Home made box for two birds ----- $10.00 or with divider $12.00
I take two boxes and tape them together as one order, shipping a total of 4 birds maximum per order on the smaller boxes.  We now have larger boxes that will comfortably hold 4 birds per box and we can tape these together shipping a total of 8.  These larger boxes are great for shipping adult Goldens and Amhersts without any tail breakage.  This has been tested and holds true.
