Being in Pittsburgh, I have access to one of the best punk/ska/hardcore scenes in the country, if not the world.  It would be a travesty to just let these great bands go unnoticed.  I go a lot of shows at Club Laga and I am going to post reviews of bands that I have seen or discovered while in college.  I urge you to check these bands out, but don't do it for me . . . do it for yourself.

Catch 22- awesome ska band from NJ, the sax player/ singer has recently moved to our home town Easton and shares our views on it, IT SUCKS! They put on a good show and played a lot of songs off of their new album Dinosaur Sounds as well as Favorites 9mm and a 3 Piece Suit and Keasby Nights.
VooDoo Glow Skulls- amazing ska band who puts on a very energetic show.  When the crowd is good, it will be one of the best shows you will ever be a part of.  "Who do VooDoo? We do VooDoo!"
In Like Flint- members of this Pittsburgh native ska band can be found around University of Pittsburgh's campus when not tearing it up with headliners at Laga.  If you ever find yourself in Pittsburgh, find them and witness thier greatness.  I expect them to go somewhere in the future.
River City Rebels- If you are into a lot of screamy ska music, this band might be for you, although they were not my cup of tea.
Pie Tasters- If you are into Sublime you will probably like this ska band.  With very catchy songs like Maggie Mae and Girl Take it Easy, this laid back beer drinking band is rapidly gaining popularity.  Good music to sit back and chill to.
The Ataris- I have seen these guys 3 times and they are very energetic on stage.  They occasionally take requests at shows.  If you are going to listen to any of their music, I suggest some pre "So Long Astoria" music.  It is their best.  If you are into more emo, check out the CD I just told you to avoid.
The Eyeliners- excellent all girl punk band off of Lookout Records.  We had some problems hearing the vocals because the singer is also the drummer, but the music is fast and catchy.  At a show, watch the guitarist, she does splits while playing and goes insane!
Relient K- A Christian punk band, but they are still good, same boat as MxPx.  Highly suggest "Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" for the lighter side of punk.
American Hi-Fi- they were about as good as could be expected in 40 degree weather.  Kinda made me mad because all of their songs sound the same and they stole some Green Day guitar lines.
