| John Foster Maddox, better known as Foster, opened a hardware store on North Main Street in Montpelier, Indiana in the early 1900's. The building had an original "Mailpouch" sign painted on the side. It is the first building north of High Street on the west side of Main Street. In the 1980's and early 90's it was the site of the license branch. It was demolished in the early 2000's. |

| The below pictures give a good view of the exterior of Foster's Hardware. The picture on the left shows three fine new tractors. The wooden "box" between two of the tractors is actually a gas pump. While hard to see in this picture, writing on the pump says..."J.F.Maddox...filtered gasoline for autos. The picture on the right shows a decent view of Main Street looking north. The building at the end of the street is the now Montpelier Glove building. The man on the tractor is unknown. |
