Notes for Rebecca Maddox: Page 24,066 of the Gertrude Mann collection: "There was a connection between them (Rebecca Maddox and Jospeh Bolling). I haven't been able to figure out just how yet but the eleven Bolling children heirs were also heirs of Abraham DeHaven and his wife Nancy." (Note: 12 children heirs were named in a suit in Chancery, Franklin Co. Va. Deed Book 19, Page 454, Wesley Mattox (brother to Rebecca) vs. Zachariah Ellis, George Ellis, Polly Ellis, the 12 Bolling children (named herein) as originally subpoened against Abraham DeHaven and his wife Ann. The DeHavens were deceased prior to filing the suit on March 6, 1832.) Dorothy Belle Brooks Cavender writes in a bible:" Rebecca's grand-daughter, Martha Cook, is my great-grandmother. She married my great-grandfather who descended from Gabriel who was a brother to Rebecca." Notes for Joseph Bolling: The heirs of Joseph Bolling, deceased, are listed in Deed Book 19, at page 454, dated March 6, 1832, of the Official Records of Franklin C., Va. under a suit in Chancery: Wesley Mattox vs. Abraham DeHaven and Nancy DeHaven. (Wesley being the brother of Rebecca Maddox who married Joseph Bolling) Also named in this suit were defendants Zachariah, Ellis, George Ellis and Polly Ellis. (Zachariah Ellis being the husband of Linda DeHaven, sister to defendant Abraham DeHaven.) Children named: George, Betsey, Nancy, Sally, Westley, Peggy, William, Blair, Harriett, Mary Jane and Rebecca Bolling being children of Joseph Bolling and Elizabeth Maddox. Also see page 24,216 of the Gertrude C. Mann geneological volumes listing the heirs as found in the Franklin Co., Public Library behind the Franklin Co., Va. Courthouse in Rocky Mount, Va. Also see Franklin Co., Virginia Clerk records the following: Deed Book 7, page 121 (and p. 123) where on September 6, 1813 (proved June 6, 1814) a William Farmer sold to Joseph Bolling 40 acres for a consideration of $250.00. Also see Deed Book 7, page 246, where on March 6, 1815 Joseph Bolling sold to Richard Robinson 78 acres for a consideration of $237.50.

Marriage Notes for Rebecca Maddox and Joseph Bolling: Note by Dorothy Belle Brooks Cavender: "Rebecca maddox, dau. of Nathan, and Joseph Bolling of Bedford Co. m. 3/12/1796, Suerty: Jordan Kemp. Married by William P. Martin." A copy of a handwritten note signed by Nathan Maddox from microfilm records of Franklin Co. Va: (hard to read)..." have agreed for Joseph Bolling to intermarry with my Daughter Rebecca...you plan to join a License for that purpose. Another handwritten note (microfilm copy) from records of the Clerk in Franklin Co., Va.: "Know all men by these presents that Jospeh Bolling, Jordan Kemp are held and firmly bound unto Robert Brooke, Esq. Governor of the State of Virginia for the sum of fifty pounds, money to which payment will and truly be made, bind ourselves, our Heirs, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this 12 day of March, 1796. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage shortly intended to be Had and Solemnized between Joseph Bolling and Rebeckah Maddox.
