If anything else comes to mind above either of those then you know that person is one of THOSE people. You know the ones I'm refering to - yes they're a Bryan fan. See, people don't just like Bryan Adams, they're fans. They'll spend a fortune on gigs & buy all his releases even trying to argue that the Spirit soundtrack was a good move.
I'll happily admit I fall into the second category though I won't try to justify Spirit for you!
On first listen this album was a huge disappointment. It had the same feel to it as On A Day Like Today but with hardly any of the upbeat tracks. On third listen I finally got it - it clicked & it's great!
Okay, on the downside some might accuse it of being a tad dreary (This Side Of Paradise), incredibly sickly (Flying, Not Romeo Not Juliet) & you could also say it is quite similar throughout.
So, it's not even a patch on Reckless but then he'll never beat that with anything, it's not anywhere near as rocky as Waking Up The Neighbours, but I do think it's better than his huge album 18 'Til I Die.
We can hear snippets of rocking ol' Bryan in She's A Little Too Good For Me & Room Service. The single Open Road has the same sort of intro as Run To You & is easily the best single he's released in years.
I must admit that the bonus track Blessing In Disguise is possibly the most horrifying thing I've heard him sing & I have a dreadful feeling he may well play it on his forthcoming tour. However, few people could still deliver this standard of goods after 20 odd years so it's gonna get a big thumbs up from this unashamed fan!!
