Got in the Queue in good time & the doors actually opened on time.....a must unusual event I could have done without 'cos it had the effect of not missing the first support band!! Best thing I can say about them is thay were only on for 30 minutes......a very poor version of Supergrass - and that's being kind. Don't ask me what they were called.....I have a few unprintable names! Next up was a group called CherryFall....not bad, but not great either, with no real standout tracks. A poor Scottish man's version of Feeder. At 9.20, the lights went down, the heaving crowd went mad and Feeder ripped into Feeling a Moment - the opening track of Pushing the Senses. A good opener, quickly followed by Comfort in Sound..... Feeder are now a 4 piece band when touring, with guitarist Dean Tidey being the 4th member. They sound so much better with the extra player - making the sound much heavier and fuller - especialy during a incredibly heavy version of Descend, and giving Grant the excuse to wander away from the microphone and interact a lot more with the crowd than before & play keyboards!!. There was a good mixture of old and new stuff - 7 from the new album though!! I have to say, I thought the album wasn't that great - too much like Comfort in Sound rejects. But in a live setting, the tracks are so much more powerful and strong.....even the gentle Frequency sounded really cool, with Grant on keyboards. They really seemed to be having a really great time bouncing around on stage - during the fast numbers - and this spread to the crowd, giving a really electric atmosphere throughout the 95 minute set. They certainly have improved since I last saw them..... Special mention to the "new" drummer Mark Richardson - who replaced the sadly depart Jon Lee........he drums like an animal (like the Muppet drummer!!) , really hammering the skins...but also shows a lot of delicate skills as well during the slow stuff. Overall, a great night, could have done with only 1 support band, meaning more Feeder, but other than that - no complaints....can't wait to see them again in July when they support R.E.M at Hyde Park! Prodigals Star Rating 9.5/10 Setlist: Feeling a Moment Comfort in Sound Pushing the senses Tender Turn Just the way I'm feeling Tumble & Fall Frequency Bitter Glass Pilgrim Soul Come back around Descend We can't rewind Insomnia Buck Rodgers ------------------------------- High Forget about tomorrow Just a day |
