Head Automatica - Decadence

One thing that always stood Glassjaw out was the amazing voice of Daryl Palumbo. Personally I found a few of their songs a bit too much on the screaming side so this album is perfect for me because it displays Daryl's near faultless voice without the screaming to distract you.

Whilst it sports an album cover that looks like it could have been rejected by Kid Creole & The Coconuts don't let that put you off. Nor the cries of "Palumbo has sold out" from various metal kids desperate just to stay in angry mode forever.

This album is pure genius. Daryl has teamed up with Dan "The Automator" Nakamura (from Gorillaz fame) & managed to fuse rock, hip-hop, dance & pop all into one unique sound. Don't let the hip-hop & dance suggestions put you off - this is coming from the biggest bigot toward anything remotely associated with those genres (me!). It is fantastic.

Kicks off with the catchy At The Speed Of A Yellow Bullet & doesn't let up once. Anybody not found subconsciencly moving their feet to the likes of Brooklyn Is Burning or Disco Hades II need to put a mirror under their nose because they're obviously dead.

Highlight of the album has to be the most perfect pop song anthem sing-a-long ever Beating Heart Baby (in fact it even makes the journey to work seem pleasurable as it blasts out my car stereo. Probably best I don't sing along whilst at traffic lights anymore due to more people looking at me in morbid fascination than at the lights changing)

Although you would find this album under the rock/pop section in a music store it should not only have a place in every genre but also a huge neon flashing arrow above it flashing BUY THIS ALBUM!! Brilliant!
