Machine Head - Elegies reviewed by Prodigal |
||||||||||||||||||||
Not a bad way to start this new section! This is without doubt one the very best concert DVD's I have had the pleasure of seeing. It was filmed at the Brixton Academy in December 2004 and this DVD brings back many great memories of that hot, sweaty & loud night in Brixton. The sound quality is absoulutely superb - there is no "5.1 surround sound" option on this - only the standard "2.1" (if you have a sub - woofer). Anyway, I couldn't notice any difference as the sound is coming at you with a ferocity that takes your breath away & gives the impression it's coming at you from all angles FULL FORCE! The guitars of Rob Flynn & Phil Demmel were well up front in the mix as they should be 'cos they ARE a metal band!!, but not to the detrement of the other players ( Dave McClean on drums, Adam Duce - bass) I have to say. All of which, made for some stunning live metal from a band at the peak of their considerable powers. Visually, the camerawork was top notch, with some nice retro effects on some of the songs - there was none of the "Steve - 1000 edits a second - Harris" shots here - when a solo was played, you could see the guitarist for more than 10 seconds. Extras: Behind the scenes footage intercut with the concert (you get the option to watch this seperately if you wish). Videos (and Making of....): Imperium, The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears & Days Turn Blue To Gray. Plus a 30 minute featurette highlighting the trouble they had getting their latest album Through The Ashes Of Empires released. Track List: Intro Imperium Seasons Wither Old Bulldozer Days Turn Blue To Gray The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears Ten Ton Hammer The Burning Red In The Presence Of My Enemies Take My Scars Descend The Shades Of Night Davidian Block Running time of concert 90 minutes Summary: No doubt that this is one of the best Live DVD's out there. Showing Machine Head at their ferocious best, pummeling ear drums in the best way possible. As Rob says: AWESOME! Prodigals Star rating 10/10 |
