Margaret "Mullins" Church

BORN, MAY,       1872

DIED, AUG.       1974

My husbands grandmother was Margaret Mullins was born in Buchanan County Virginia, the daughter of Bill and Ollie Mullins. She married Joel "Wilson" Church in about 1892.    Margaret, known to her grandchildren as "Mammy" was tiny a little woman. She didnt look like she would have weighed 90 pounds..She smoked a pipe and wasn't against taking a little drink ever once in a while.    She lived a hard life , raising her children, practically alone. I dont know why her and Wilson never got along. But they parted before 1920. In the McDowell County 1920, she is listed as head of household and her children are living with her. Some are grown, but still living at home.     Margaret lived to be over a 100 years old. Her death record states that she was 102, but census records suggest that she wasnt quite that old. The picture above was taken in 1963 and she died in 1974. The border on the left was made from a picture when Margaret was young.
