Homesickness
Homesickness is something you experience when you stay by grandma's for a night when you're little, or when you go off to summer camp for a week, and even when you go away to college. College homesickness is something all incoming freshmen deal with. What most students don't realize is that there is more to college than packing up and moving in.
It's okay to become homesick. It's better to recognize the fact that you miss those close to you, and try to keep in touch with them the best you can. What students must also do is meet new people. But when doing this, do not try and replace what you lost when you moved away. New friends come along with a new beginning. It will take awhile before you feel at home in you new home.
The best way to deal with homesickness is to keep busy. One way to fight homesickness is by getting involved in activities. The more involved you become the more people you'll meet, and meeting people helps make the transition easier.
College is also hard work. It is nothing like high school and the homework is very demanding. By staying focused on your studies, it makes time go by faster and less time is spent worrying about those that you're missing. But don't lose yourself in your homework, know when to give yourself a break and have fun.
It is also important to stay healthy. Sometimes it is difficult to find time to eat and when there is time to eat, it is usually something fast. Try to balance meals and eat healthy. The cafeteria food won't kill you, but remember moderation is key.
Homesickness is nothing to be ashamed of. Everyone goes through it and it can be overcome. The best thing to do is to stay busy, involved and take care of yourself.
