Music

Music has always been a big part of my life.  I started taking piano lessons when I was eight years old and when I was twelve I started taking lessons on the trumpet.

Piano was my first love.  It taught me discipline and responsibility.  My piano teacher, Mrs. Busse,  made music fun for me.  She challenged me and made me work hard because she believed in me.  I took lessons from Mrs. Busse for ten years and she taught me different styles of music.  I like playing almost anything.  My favorite Composer is Frederic Chopin.

The summer going into sixth grade I joined the school band and starting taking trumpet lessons from the music teacher.  The trumpet was a new and exciting experience for me.  I was motivated by my dad because he used to play the trumpet in a polka band with his family.  In high school I participated in the pep, concert, and jazz bands.  Being involved in these activities were fun and kept me busy.  My band director, Mrs. Johnson, was a huge influence.  She would encourage me to try new things and always made rehearsals fun.  Mrs. Johnson encouraged me to listen to other trumpet players to become a better player myself.  My favorite professional trumpet players are  Dizzy Gillespie, and Wynton Marsalis

In middle school and high school I participated in many musical events.  Every year there was a Solo/Ensemble competition held at a different school in the conference.  I would play solos, duets, and be apart of big ensembles such as a Brass or Trumpet Choir.  I would also accompany other instrumental soloists.  Competition days were always very busy and rewarding for me.  I went to state consecutively on either my piano or trumpet pieces, but my senior year I went to state on all of my entries.

Music has been and will continue to be a big part of my life.
