Belgium; Bruges, Dammer, the coast | |||||||||
So we drove the car onto the ferry in Dover for a weekend of beer and chocolate in the medievil town of Bruges. This world heritagetown is a tourists' dream, Great food, drinks and deserts, utterly picturesque and so easy to access. Loz drove us to the B & B and from here we launched our attack on the town via bicycle. We had 2 days enjoying the cobbled streets and bridges over the many canals throughout the town. No cars access the centre, it's all bicycle, feet or horse drawn carriages. We discovered many of the better beers of this great country and definately became connoissuers of belgium chocolate. It was hard not to fill the car up on the way home. We were lucky enough to be there at the time of a parade commemorating an important medievil marriage. There was plenty of horse drawn floats and great costumes taking over the streets for 2 days. |

We took a day to drive around the countryside, visiting Dammer, another medievil town nestled on a canal. We also drove out to the coast and witnessed the Belgium beach culture in the great weather of the day which almost pushed 22 degrees C. The trip was short but well needed. We loved Belgium and were so happy about the ease to get there and home. Check out the photos because they tell the story much better. |
