From Cairo we headed out to Dahab, a coastal community/tourist destination on the Red Sea in Sinai. Here is some of the best snorkelling and diving in the world, with the blue hole only 25 minutes drive away. Resturants line the beach serving fresh seafood displayed on huge iced platters. Getting off a sunbed, putting on your snorkel, and diving in to swim over amazing corals and underwater wildlife is a reality. We explored heaps of reefs even taking camels for 2 hours up the coast to stay with the bedouin and snorkel. We celebrated Lorren's Birthday although not in style as she was suffering from food poisoning from the night before, enough said! We dragged ourselves from this paradise to make a trip over the water to Jordan and explore Petra with a great bunch of people. This is where the temple (The Treasury) from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is located! Again this was a trip that was worth all it's effort. There's so much to this place with 3000 tombs carved into a huge valley in warped arabian mountains. We climbed to the top of one mountain to witness The Monastory, a 50 square metre facade carved into the mountain face, which was even more amazing than the Treasury. Leaving Jordan after not nearly enough time, we headed back to Cairo for one last day of shopping and sightseeing. We made a visit to the Step Pyramid the oldest made made structure in the world. We then treated ourselves to another trip to the Giza Pyramids where we took Arabian horses for a wild ride around the complex as the sunset. Racing horses across the sands with the pyramids to our side became one of those rare moments in a lifetime. Though it wasn't as easy as we made it look. After hitting the souq's in Islamic Cairo, and adding considerably to the load of our backpacks, we made a last morning of sightseeing on our way to the airport. It just wouldn't stop, hours before flying out we had walked through the oldest mosque in Africa and checked out Cairo's Citadel. Exhuasted but completly in love with Egypt we boarded a plane bound for Mumbai. This background is from the mountains in Jordan |
