LAKE DISTRICT | |||||||||||||
This was something we'd wanted to to see from the first trip here, and since Rosh had a car, we made the drive up to the North West of England into the Lake District. Bordering Scotland, this is a magical place of rolling green hills, ancient stone circles, beautiful old stone buildings and some absolutely amazing trekking! So, after 8 hours in the car, barely moving along the M1, we arrived in the Lake District. As it was dark when we arrived, we had to wait till the morning to see what we'd gotten ourselves into. On rising though, we realised it was well worth the effort. We found ourselves driving along curving single lane tracks lined by old hedges and green as far as the eye could see. greeted by mountain goats and sheep, it was beautiful. |

We had hoped to do a moderate climb to the top of one of the highest peaks in the area but got lost on the way and this was our undoing. As by the time we were starting the final push to the top the cloud cover had lowered to much that visibility became an issue and we decided to turn back. The following day we went southwards to the coast and walked around a small hill along an estuary. Both these areas are shown in the photos and had their own special beauty. The drive home wasn't much shorter but altogether this was one of the most beautiful parts of England we have seen. |
