The Canada Needlebooks

Maple Leaves, Indians, Mounties and Totem Poles – these are some of the Canadian Symbols of pride used to decorate needle books. Canada's aboriginal peoples were aware of the food properties of maple sap long before the coming of the first European settlers. The maple leaf has been used as a Canadian symbol since the 1700’s. It appears on the Canadian flag, their coins, and military insignia – and on their needle books. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have long served the people of Canada, first by establishing law and order, and ultimately by ensuring it. It is not surprising that the red-coated Mountie with his Stetson hat is the subject of a Canadian needle book. The totem poles of the Pacific Northwest region of British Columbia are famous worldwide and beautifully decorate the reverse of one of these books.

None of the Canada needle books are marked. The two similar books have foil-stuck needles. The other has packets of Superior sharps. The Maple Brand needle book may not truly belong here. I just included it because it reflects the theme and the view out the train window looks to me like the Canadian Rockies. It was made in Occupied Japan. Enjoy!
