My name's Ross Ariffin. I am a professional Music Producer, Composer and Pianist from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I ahev been a musician since an early age of 8 when I started the piano and soon after got scholarship to the United Kingdom at the age of 10 to continue my piano studies and taking up the violin as my second instrument.
Amongst my professors was Mr Iuan Roberts (Royal College of Music) and Miss Eileen Brosster (Royal College of Music) for piano and Mr Leslie Philips (Royal Academy of Music/British Composer) for my Theoretical studies and Mr Richard Kirkland (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) for my violin studies.
I have always been keen to compose since an early age of 9 when I compsoed my first set of pieces for piano for each member of my family. Since returning to Malaysia after completing my classical studies in London I took up composing and producing for Malaysian artists and since then for the last twelve years or so all my compositions have been published under EMI Malaysia.
I am the Managing Director of two companies; Firstly Pet Project Sdn Bhd alongwith my wife of twenty years Helena Hon who is an acclaimed Editor/Writer. Secondly I am Director of my latest company which is primarily an Event Management company dealing with bands, pianists, singers, jingles, film scoring, corporate launchings, fashion show music, product launchings,TV and Radio jingles,Scoring for Documentaries and television programmes and movies.
I have won four Malaysian Industry Awards including A.I.M ( Industri Muzik Malaysia), Juara Muzik Lagu (Best Pop Rock Song "Kau Dan Aku-Ning Baizura"), Pesta Filem Malaysia (Movie-"Fantasi" Best Movie Soundtrack) and Winner of the Asian Broadcasting Association Golden Kite World Song Festival - Malaysia with song "Semalam Ku Tolak Ke Tepi" and was finalist alongwith my wife who penned the lyrics to " A Kiss Goodnight" at the 2004 USA Songwriting Competition amongst 30,000 entries worldwide which was judge by a "blue-ribbon" panel in the United States.
I have produced and composed hit songs for local Malaysian singers such as Fuaziah Latiff, Amy Mastura, Aishah, Ning Baizura, Ruhil Amani, Jamal Abdillah, Camelia, Erra Fazira, Jaclyn Victor , Liza Hanim and Datuk Siti Nurhaliza.
I live with my wife and two teenage children in Kuala Lumpur. We hope to migrate one fine day God willing to a country which is foward-thinking and provides better opportunities for both my wife and children - as Ive said in the near future.
