"There is one way in this country in which all men are created equal -- there is one human institution that makes a pauper the equal of a Rockefeller, the stupid man the equal of an Einstein, and the ignorant man the equal of any college president. That institution, gentlemen, is a court. It can be the Supreme Court of the United States or the humblest J.P. court in the land, or this honorable court which you serve. Our courts have their faults, as does any human institution, but in this country our courts are great levelers, and in our courts all men are created equal." --Atticus Finch, from To Kill a Mockingbird |

Roswell Reads, now in its fourth year, is a reading initiative developed to bring people together to revitalize reading and create social and cultural bridges through the shared experience of extraordinary literature. Based on the One Book-One Community model, Roswell Reads is administered by the High Plains Writing Project, a site of the National W riting Project, and implemented by a board representing Eastern New Mexico University-Portales and Roswell, Main Street Roswell, the Roswell Literacy Council, the Roswell Public Library, and the community. We are funded by partnerships with generous community organizations dedicated to celebrating and promoting the power of reading. |
This event is part of the Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. |
