GUTHRIE ARTIST’S WORKS REALLY FLOOR ’EM
People walk all over her award-winning art, but VIRGINIA HUGHES doesn’t seem to mind --in fact, it makes her downright proud. Colorful hand-painted canvas floor cloths are among the creative art by Hughes, Guthrie resident, on exhibit through February, at the FRONTIER COUNTRY HISTORICAL MUSEUM in Crescent. Canvas floor art was all but forgotten and would have been lost, if not for home decorating programs on television, that have brought about a renewed awareness of the craft, according to Hughes, who seals and waxes her painted rugs, so they will retain their beauty for years to come. Folk art garden benches and tables, hand-made and painted by Hughes, along with ‘soft-sculpture’ Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls are also part of the current exhibit. A public reception --including refreshments-- to Meet and Greet the artist is set for Sunday, January 25, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Museum. The FRONTIER COUNTRY MUSEUM is located at 500 N. Grand in Crescent. OK, at the intersection of S.H. 74 and 74-C. For more information, phone the Museum at 405-969-3660. |
