Here are a few action shots of the red oak acorn being carved. In the picture on the left, the acorn is blocked out in a rough form that somewhat resembles a nut. In the picture on the right, Chris is starting to cut in the point on the bottom of the nut.  You can see where the cap is more defined, and the sides of the nut are smooth and no longer faceted.
Why the sour expression? Oak sawdust to the face HURTS!
Here, Chris is rounding over the bottom curve of the acorn, preparing for the shaping of the point.
