Eastern Europe
August 16 thru 26
(4 nights in Prague, 3 nights in the Tatry mountains, 2 nights in Krakow,
and a few nights of quirky night trains just to get around)

The Charles Bridge and the tourist epidemic in Prague, The Czech Republic...
most severely impacted city due to tourism that I've seen!
But for good reason! Its a beautiful city!

Stain glass in the cathedral of castle Prague and its mystical image

Here's a drinking horn... all decorated up like a bird of prey... or maybe a chicken..
either way I've gotta get me one of these, but they wouldn't take it out of the museum for me!

View from Prague Castle looking out over the city.

Made a daytrip out to Konopiste castle.. it was Franz Ferdinand's hunting castle (his assassination began WWI)...
there are thousands of trophies and weapons that he collected inside.

Birds of prey, falcons, owls in front of Konopiste castle. I didn't have the heart
take a photo of the black bear they held captive in the moat!

Prague's old town square at sunset

Susan and I met up with Bruce (a friend of a friend that lives in Prague) for some drinks
and jazz in this little basement of a bar... the guy above plays the keyboard.

Then I headed off to check out the Tatry mountains between Slovakia and Poland.. notice the strange green rock...

I actually hiked down this... its amazing what the Slovaks will call a trail!

Looking across the Tatry mountains from Slovakia into Poland.

A few were out really climbing the mountains...

Largest and deepest lake on the Slovakian side of the Tatry mountains.

Looking back into the valley I stayed in my second night.

The castle and cathedral in Krakow, Poland. The Scorpions were in town and I have never seen so many people
crammed onto every train coming into twon during the hours prior to the start..
Yes! The Scorps are still big out here!

The largest town square in Europe... Krakow. I also visited the concentration camp Auschwitz near Krakow.
To see it up close and personal brings a new understanding of how deep humanity can sink.
