Carolines Diary  - Greek Islands
It took a lot for Dave to convince me to leave South East Asia and head for Greece.  The main reason was that I had in my mind the need to finish our time there or "see out the sentance!!" but when I realised that it was OK to change the plans and leave, it was one of the best decisions I had made.

As we only had two weeks in Greece, I have decided to use my diary and put down a few extracts from it.....

22nd April - After a long tiring flight, we are here in Greece. I only slept about 3 hours and I'm feeling like s**t.  Today started as a disaster. At the airport the bus would not take us and the bikes to the port, as the bikes are too dangerous on the bus - a safety hazard! I now know that I am back in Europe, in South East Asia the bikes would have been put on the roof! We spoke to tourist information who confirmed that we could not cycle out of the airport as it was all motorway and suggested the only way to leave with the bikes was by taxi! We decided at this point it was all too much and decided to leave the bikes in left luggage but this cost 100 pounds, so we headed for the taxi rank. Dave enlisted the help of a passing policeman who agreed we could hang the bikes on the back of the taxi boot. Well we had done it in Cambodia, so why not here!

24th April - Currently sitting on our balcony in the little fishing village of Naoussa, on the island of Paros.  Today was just lovely, we cycled to a little village in the mountains, picniced lunch on a bench overlooking the town, cycled home and a sunbathed on the balcony! It is so peacefull and quiet here, just divine, I even feel like laughing again! It's funny how miserable I felt with the last few weeks in South East Asia and now it feels so wonderful to be here and be so relaxed and have so much peace and quiet, its lovely!!!!

27th April - Typical Greek night, retsina wine, greek salad and mousakka. The owner of the restaurant gave us a free carafe of wine and a little Raki so we staggered home and had a terrible hangover the following day!! nothing changes!!

5th May - Greek Easter Sunday. Long lie till 9am, great! The hotel has their roast lamb underway on the spit, beside the pool. We bashed our hard bolied, dyed red eggs (provided by the hotel) and wished each other happy easter, Greek style!!

Dave and I really enjoyed our "holiday" in Greece, mainly because the resorts were just opening up and there were not many tourists around so it was nice to see a new restaurant or hotel open up every day.  It was also a pleasant chnage from the hussle and bussle of South East Asia, the relaxed attitude and peaceful surroundings was just what the doctor ordered!
