Diary Singapore
Firstly we would both like to say a big "thank you" to Jacky (Caroline's friend from Scotland) for putting up with two smelly cyclists for a week (the lack of launderettes in hot sweaty Bali, meant we had no clothes left!!). Jacky was a great host, we really appreciated staying at her house and enjoying all the home comforts. Although we did have to help Jacky drink the contents of the booze cabinet, before she moves to Germany, which was a bit tough!!

Singapore is very much a multi cultural population, 77 percent are Chinese (a figure which gave me great difficulty when it came to buying clothes! The shops don't do size XXXL!!!, those Chinese girls are so small.

For our first night out with Jacky, we went to a Mexican restaurant, as we had been eating rice for a week in Bali. Jacky then took us to Raffles for the obligatory Singapore Sling, accompanied by monkey nuts! The shells could be thrown on the floor, the only place in Singapore where littering is allowed. There are many rules and regulations in Singapore, from not being allowed chewing gum into the country to flushing the toilet, which is a must!!

We also spent a few nights meeting up with some of the folks I (Caroline) used to work with at Motorola, who are now living it up as an ex-pats in Singapore.  It was the first time I had spoken to anyone from Scotland in six months. Dave had a very hard time keeping up with 10 Scots, I even resorted back to my usual accent, much to Dave's amusement.  I should say that I have been trying really hard to slow my speech down and talk more clearly as most countries we have been in have found difficulty with the accent!!

We only spent one day doing tourist things - walking to Raffles (it was nice to see it sober this time), taking in a view of the skyline, trying to get into the cricket ground (to no avail) and wandering around Boat Quay, enjoying the atmosphere. Apart from that our time was really spent chatting to people other than ourselves(!!), having a few beers (including late night dancing on the stage at the "Elvis Bar") and enjoying the comforts of Jacky's house as it was nice not to pack the bags every day for a change!! I should also mention the shopping! Singapore has more shops than I have ever seen in my life, so we (Dave in body only!) had a great time wandering round,  replacing a few things in our extensive wardrobes and spening our Christmas money, which Santa had delivered from numerous relatives.
