God is light.
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5

Light comes from fire.
12 Moreover thou leddest them in the day by a cloudy pillar; and in the night by a pillar of fire, to give them light in the way wherein they should go. Nehemiah 9:12

Light is a fire.
16 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. Job 1:16

God is a sun.
11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11

The sun is a great light.
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, Genesis 1:14-17

God is a consuming fire.
29 For our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:29

Fire is hot.
2 As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence! Isaiah 64:2

The sun is a great hot consuming light (fire) which is travelling in a continuing circuit in space.
4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof. Psalm 19:4-6

The earth is in space.
7 He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing. Job 26:7

The earth is turning upside down in space.
24:1 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof. Isaiah 24:1

The earth is illuminated and warmed by the sun as it turns upside down in the presence of the sun in space.
11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways. James 1:11

When the earth turns away from the sun, the earth enters into darkness, and the earth cools down.

How do I know that space is cold?
I know that space is cold because, when my warmed side of the earth turns away from the light and heat of the sun, my side of the earth starts to cool down as it enters into, the cold darkness of space.
