Dearest Frodo:

It's been three years since you left, sir and it still
feels empty in the study without you.  But don't you
worry none, I'm still happy living here at Bag End.
Rosie pointed out when I got home that day that you
would want me to be and I knew of course that she was
right.  Our little Frodo lad was born early last year,
and he's a real joy to everyone we know.  He's a
clever lad, kind of quiet, but he loves books and
already seems interested in letters and numbers.  In
fact, he's a lot like you.

All of Hobbiton feels empty without you, Frodo, at
least to everyone who took the time to get to know
you.  When your name comes up, people usually assume
you went off on another wild adventure and died in the
wilderness.  Whenever we hear that, we set them
straight rather quickly and we show them the Red Book
whenever we can.  That gets them thinking, let me tell
you!  Speaking of books, I've been doing a lot more
reading than I did before you left, especially on the
subject of Herbology.  Your post-quest scholarliness
has rubbed off on me.

I had my coming of age party last year, Frodo, right
on schedule. It was very exciting and very emotional,
as coming of age parties always are. My memories of it
will always be kind bitter-sweet since you weren't
there, but that's quite all right.  You did what you
had to do and pain is, after all a normal part of
growing up. Now that I'm of age, I noticed the ladies
are giving me a lot of attention.  I love it, although
I have no plans to marry any time soon. I'm enjoy my
freedom too much right now.

We all miss you terribly, Frodo.  Not a day goes by
when we don’t think about you, but we console
ourselves with that fact you no doubt found the
healing peace you deserve and that we’ll all be
together again on day, even though no ones knows when
or where.   Have a wonderful birthday and many more!

                  All our love,
               Sam, Merry and Pippin
