"Aragorn, is this really a Dunedain birthday custom?" Frodo fidgeted, uncomfortable in the undignified and compromising position.
"You doubt my word? Frodo, this is fair. The mathoms are lovely, but you did agree to trade traditions."
"I wouldn’t have if I had known!" The hobbit blew his curls with an agitated breath. "So. How many?"
"You are... how old?"
"What?" Frodo’s eyes widened. "Oh no...!"
The king waited patiently until Frodo dropped his head toward the floor in defeat.
“Fifty-four.” the Ringbearer whispered.
Elessar smiled and raised his hand above the hobbit over his lap. "Then count. One!"
