About the rowing docks: Located just downriver from the boathouse is 100' of high quality dock space to launch rowing crews and for returning crews to dock their shells. Dock space is at a premium in high-use hours so we strive to launch, dock, and move on and off the docks in a timely and safe fashion.
About the Boathouse and Boatyard: The Island Park Boathouse is maintained by the Greater Dayton Rowing Association. The University of Dayton occupies the center bay of the boathouse. The rowing programs share neither equipment nor supplies. GDRA occupies the smaller Bay #1 (toward the parking lot) and it is filled with privately owned shells, the dressing room, the telephone area and bulletin boards. The larger Bay #3 is located on the river side of the boathouse. Small privately owned and club-owned shells are stored on the outside wall of the house and larger junior sweep shells are racked on the opposite side. Some shells are ceiling racked with a pulley system. Only qualified adult rowers may handle the rowing equipment and junior rowers with coaches advise. Only paid adult members and junior crew captains have the boathouse combination. Most rowers know the boatyard combinations.
The fenced area near the docks is a locked outdoor storage facility for rowing equipment referred to as The Boatyard. It was erected in 2004 when the current boathouse began to overflow. The safety launches are stored outdoors here. There is a separately locked storage space for gasoline within the boatyard. Both the University of Dayton and Greater Dayton Rowing have their own respective areas of the facility and do not share equipment or supplies.
