Mistaken Identity

Phoebe strolled happily through the front door. 'Life is so perfect' she thought. Indeed it was. The past couple of weeks had been considerably low in demon activity and the sisters had taken this opportunity to live somewhat normal lives. Phoebe was head over heels in love with a wonderful guy who knew her secret, and yet didn't seem to mind. She and her sisters were getting along even better since the terrifying events that took place a month ago (Read my other fan fic 'The Test'). Even Piper was getting somewhere with her love life. After much persuasion and encouragement on Phoebe's part, Piper had finally begun dating their new next - door neighbor, Dan Gordon. Prue wasn't doing so badly either. However, she was still in the process of deciding whether to hate or like her new colleague at Bucklands, Jack Sheridan.

Phoebe comes out of her mesmerizing as she checks the machine for any messages. There was one from Prue saying that she would be working late. The other was from Jamie. Phoebe smiled absently at the sound of his deep voice. "Hey princess! I really hate to let you down like this but I can't make it tonight. They flipped the schedule round so I have to do the night shift. I'm really sorry. I'd much rather spend the night with you, but I don't have a choice. I'll make it up to you, I promise." Jamie sighs over the phone. "Well, I gotta go. Love ya." There was a click and then the dial tone. Phoebe lets out a disappointed sigh. She couldn't help but feel a little let down because she was looking forward to the date. "Gee, that's too bad. I guess I'm going to have to do for tonight." Phoebe turned round to find Piper at the doorway, smiling brightly. "I'll live," she responds, also smiling. It was nice to see her sister looking so happy. "So, how was lunch?" Phoebe asks, following Piper into the kitchen. "Pretty good, I take it. Or was it something other than the food?" "The food wasn't so bad," Piper admitted coyly. "And?" Phoebe prompted. "And neither was Dan." "So you like him?" Phoebe pressed. Piper nodded. "If the question - answer period is over, how about helping me with dinner. It's just the two of us." Phoebe nodded slowly, a thoughtful smile on her lips.

The next evening, Prue and Piper are in the kitchen getting ready to start on dinner when the doorbell ringing interrupts. "I'll get it," Prue says, leaving the kitchen. Prue opens the front door and steps back in surprise. "Hi, Prue. Is Phoebe home?" Jamie asked pleasantly. "Uh, hello Jamie. Phoebe's at a class right now. Is she expecting you?" Prue asked, studying the gorgeous guy standing in front of her. Jamie was dressed casually in combat pants and running shoes. His thick dark hair was neatly combed. Jamie shook his head. "No, I don't think so. If it's okay with you and Piper, I'd like to hang around till she gets back." "Of course it's okay," Prue assured him. Jamie follows Prue into the kitchen. Piper looks up as they enter. "Hi, Jamie," she greets him. "Hey Piper. And no, Phoebe's not expecting me. I'm merely making up for last night," Jamie says, flashing her a knowing smile. Prue and Piper exchange amused glances. "I don't think Phoebe would hold it against you if you cancelled just once," Prue tells him. Jamie nods. "I know, but she happens to be the most important person in my life right now, and I feel like I should." He shrugs dismissively. Prue and Piper fall silent, remembering what Phoebe had said about Jamie's parents and brother being killed in a plane crash. "Need any help with dinner?" Jamie asks, glad for a change of subject. Seeing the hesitant look on Piper's face, he smiles. "I'm not as good a cook as you are, but I certainly am a lot better than Phoebe," he tells her. "How do you know about our cooking talents?" Prue inquires curiously. "Phoebe told me." "What else has she told you about me and Prue?" Piper asks. Jamie shrugs a twinkle in his eye. "Ask her yourself. I wanna know what she's told you about me." Piper smiles teasingly. "What makes you think she's told us anything?" she asks. "One thing I realized when I first started seeing her was that the three of you are too close to hide much from each other. Now I know there's more to it," Jamie says smiling. "So you don't mind Phoebe telling us anything?" Prue asks, looking surprised. "No. I mean, if Phoebe wants to tell you it's up to her. Same thing goes when she talks to me about anything. If she doesn't want to tell me something, it's okay with me."

A soft knock at the back door interrupts their conversation. Piper opens it and smiles as Dan enters. He gives her a soft kiss on the cheek. He sees Jamie and looks slightly taken aback. Just then, someone steals up from behind and throws their arms around Jamie. He whirls round in surprise and laughs softly when he realizes who it is. He returns the hug and places a tender kiss on Phoebe's lips. They pull apart and Phoebe turns to Dan. "Hi Dan." "Dan, this is Jamie, Phoebe's boyfriend," Piper introduces them. Dan and Jamie shake hands. Turning back to Piper, Dan asks, "Could I have some ice?" Piper nods, walking up to the refrigerator and pulling out an ice tray. She hands it to Dan. "Thanks," he says, before leaving.

"Pheebs, mind if I ask you a question?" Prue began hesitantly. The sisters were lounging on the couch after cleaning up. Jamie had just left, leaving the sisters alone together after quite some time. "What?" Phoebe asks. "Just how serious are you with Jamie?" Phoebe smiles. "Very. But not serious enough to make any permanent commitments yet, if that's what you mean." Phoebe narrows her eyes and looks at her sisters suspiciously. "Why? What did he tell you?" "Nothing really. Just that the two of you don't hold any secrets from each other," Piper says soothingly. Phoebe nods. "What secret can you keep from a guy who knows your biggest secret. It's just so easy to tell him anything now that the biggest obstacle's gone." "Hey, so how high do your own sisters rate?" Prue asks mockingly. Phoebe shakes her head. "There's a difference, Prue. Some things are a lot easier to tell if told to someone on the outside. It's just not the same," Phoebe says seriously, thinking about her oldest sister's ex-fiancé, Roger and how hard it still was for her to say anything about him even to Piper, but she'd told Jamie everything.

"Morning, Pheebs," Piper says cheerfully, as Phoebe dragged herself into the kitchen next morning for breakfast. "Arrgh, how can you be so cheerful at this time?" she grumbles. "Cheer up, Pheebs. Think about your date with Jamie tonight," Prue teased. Phoebe rolled her eyes at her sister. "I wish. We're not going out tonight. I've gotta study for a psych test." "No wonder she's grumpy this morning," Piper teased. "What are you doing tonight?" Phoebe asked, in an attempt to get attention off her. "Meeting Dan at P3," Piper says. Phoebe glances at her watch and nearly spills her coffee. "I'm gonna be late," she exclaims, racing out the back door.

An exhausted Phoebe trooped through the back door that evening. She went up to the refrigerator in search of her fruit punch. As she opened it, she caught sight of Piper's note, saying that they were both at P3. Phoebe sighs, and pours herself a glass. She takes a long and refreshing drink before gathering her things and making her way wearily up the stairs to begin her studying. It was going to be a long night. Unknown to Phoebe, something extraordinary was happening at P3 that night.

Phoebe let out a long yawn as she stumbled sleepily down the stairs the next morning. 'Man, am I tired' she thought. She had been up half the night studying for her test and was now looking forward to a refreshing cup of hot coffee. However, all thoughts of breakfast vanished from Phoebe's head as she entered the kitchen. She almost winced when Piper sent icy daggers with her eyes at her from across the table. "What's wrong?" Phoebe asked, immediately sensing that something was not right. "What's wrong!" Piper blurted out angrily.

"You know exactly what's wrong! You were flirting with Dan! That's what's wrong!" Phoebe looks stunned by this revelation. "Your innocent surprised look won't work with me," Piper continues angrily. Phoebe finally finds her voice. "Piper, what are you talking about? I was here all evening. I wasn't even at P3. I have no idea of what you're saying!" "Oh, sure you don't! Wow, Danny boy! Aren't you cute? What do you think I am? Deaf, dumb and blind?" Piper cut in, before storming angrily out of the kitchen. A minute later, the front door slammed shut. Phoebe looks at Prue in stunned silence. "I'll say one thing for you, Phoebe. You're one good actor," Prue tells her sternly, before standing up to leave. Phoebe looks at Kit, stretched out lazily on the floor. "What just happened here?" she asks the empty room.

Phoebe walked slowly, along the road leading away from the college, shoulders hunched and completely oblivious to the world around her. The events of that morning were ringing in her head, as they had been the whole day. Phoebe wasn't even sure that she wanted to go home. It wasn't like Phoebe to brood over something for so long. "Why am I so upset? I didn't do anything!" she chided herself, silently. But it wasn't helping. "Hey Phoebe, need a ride home?" Phoebe spun round to see Jamie standing beside his car. She had been so deeply wrapped up in her thoughts that she had just gone past him without noticing. "Uh, hi Jamie," she greeted him, anything but enthusiastically. Jamie frowned slightly as he walked up to give her a gentle kiss. "You don't sound too pleased to see me." Phoebe shook her head apologetically. "Sorry, it's not you. Today just doesn't seem to make any sense." "Want to talk about it?" he asked gently. Looking at his gentle, coffee-colored eyes, filled with concern and affection made Phoebe's heart melt.

Less than a half-hour later, Phoebe found herself sitting at Quake with Jamie, and spilling out everything about that morning. "I can't believe she thinks I'd do something like that. I was at the manor the whole night. I would never want to hurt Piper or Prue," Phoebe confided, tears filling her eyes. Jamie reached across the table and squeezed her hand. "You believe me, don't you?" Phoebe asked, almost pleadingly. Jamie nodded. "Of course I do," he assured her, and he knew that he truly did. Phoebe may be wild and daring at times, but hurting either of her sisters was one thing she'd never do. He found it hard to believe that Prue and Piper would think she would. Looking at Phoebe, he struggled to find the right words. "Phoebe, its probably just a misunderstanding," he told her. Phoebe shook her head. "My own sisters can't recognize me. No way." "That's not what I meant. I don't know much about the supernatural, but it could have some kind of demon or something." "Demon, warlock or whatever, Piper hates me for something I didn't do," Phoebe concluded, sounding very hurt and angry. Jamie took both her hands and looked her in the eye. "Angel listen to me, deep down Piper knows that you'd never do such a thing, but people believe what they see. No matter how different the three of you are, at the end of the day you're only human, like me, like all of us," he says softly. "But still.." Phoebe began, but Jamie cut her off. "No buts. If you didn't do anything, and you didn't, everything will work out. You'll see."

Phoebe took a deep breath as she stepped into the house, closing the door behind her. She strode briskly through the living room with intentions of going straight up to her room, but Prue's voice stopped her cold. "It's late. Where were you?" "With Jamie," Phoebe answered, starting for the stairs. She could feel her sister's eyes on her. "What?" she asked abruptly, turning round to face her sister. Prue eyed her evenly. "Just observing how you seem to be enjoying all of this." Phoebe bristled. "What are you saying, Prue? That the fact that my own sister thinks I'm trying to steal her boyfriend isn't affecting me? Is that what you're implying?" Phoebe asked angrily, struggling to control her voice. "Just because you're mad at me for taking Dan, don't take it out on Prue," Piper stated coldly from the doorway. Phoebe whirled around to meet Piper's eyes. "I'm not mad at anyone but myself! I'm mad at myself for getting in between you and Leo, for pushing you on Dan. If I'd left you alone and let you work things out on your own, I wouldn't end up being accused of something I didn't do. I can't prove that to you, but you'll find out some day just like what happened with Roger," Phoebe told them, feeling the hot tears sting her eyes. She blinked them back. It took all the effort she could manage to keep calm. "I would never do anything to hurt either of you, but that doesn't mean I'm prepared to be your punching bag or your scapegoat," Phoebe told them, her voice low and angry. With that, she turned and marched up the stairs to her room.

Footsteps sounded in the hall. A moment later, Prue and Piper heard the front door close. It was the next morning and Prue and Piper were having breakfast. Phoebe had just skipped breakfast and left. Both Prue's and Piper's minds were on their encounter with Phoebe the previous night. "Uh..Piper, I've been thinking." Piper looked up from her cereal. "Well, maybe it wasn't Phoebe. Maybe it was some kind of warlock or demon. After all, she wasn't around for too long," Prue said, struggling to find the right way to say it. Piper sighed. "Every part of me wants to believe that, but I know what I saw. Besides, we haven't exactly been attacked by anything lately. How I wish Phoebe had nothing to do with this," she said looking down at her cereal, an expression of pain crossing her face. Prue shook her head sympathetically. She knew that Piper and Phoebe had always been close, and though neither of them was showing it, Prue knew that this was tearing both her sisters apart inside. She hoped her sisters would talk and work things out.

Phoebe hurried up the steps to the back door. She was going to be late for her date with Jamie. He was picking her up at 7 and it was already 6:30. Phoebe hoped her sisters wouldn't be home. 'It's too early anyway' she thought hopefully. However, Phoebe was quite surprised when she found both Piper and Prue having dinner. She pretended not to notice and went right past. "Phoebe, can we talk?" Piper asked. Phoebe paused briefly, thinking what those words would have meant under normal circumstances. It would have meant a heart to heart sisterly chat. But now, Phoebe couldn't even begin to guess what they meant, and she wasn't sure that she wanted to find out either. "There's nothing to talk about," she stated, throwing one look over her shoulder at her sisters. Prue and Piper exchange glances and Prue lets out a long sigh. 'So much for talking things over,' she thinks.

A half-hour later, Phoebe comes down the stairs wearing a thick, gray cashmere sweater over loose-fitting black satin bottoms. "Wow! Where're you going?" Prue asks with forced cheerfulness. "Out," Phoebe replies flatly. "Where?" Piper asks. Phoebe bites her lower lip. She didn't enjoy giving her sisters a hard time, but she didn't know how else to respond either. "To Paris with Dan," Phoebe retorts meaningfully, before grabbing her organizer from the counter and walking out. Piper grimaces, knowing that Phoebe's last remark was meant mostly for her.

Prue's cell phone rings. Prue groans as she picks it up. "What? But Claire, its 7 o' clock?" she protests into the phone. "Oh, all right," Prue agrees grudgingly after listening for a moment. She hangs up and looks at Piper. "Let me guess, the slave driver calls," Piper says dryly. Prue nods. "Are you going to be okay on your own?" "Of course I am. I appreciate your concern, Prue, but I can take care of myself." "Are you sure?" Piper nods defiantly. "I really could use some quality time to myself." "Okay, if you say so," Prue says, still hesitating. Piper gives her a reassuring smile. Prue grabs her car keys and turns to leave.

"We're almost there," Jamie says, not taking his eyes off the road. Phoebe sighs in slight annoyance, tugging at her blindfold. "No, not yet," Jamie says, putting a restraining hand on her arm. "How did I let myself get talked into this?" Phoebe asks herself. Several minutes later, Jamie stops the car and steps out. He comes round and opens the passenger side door and helps Phoebe out. He unties her blindfold and then steps aside to let her see. Phoebe gasps in amazement when she sees an elegantly laid table lit only by two candles, overlooking the bay below. "It's beautiful!" Jamie wraps his arms around her from behind. "I'm glad you like it." Phoebe smiles, relaxing in his strong grip, and enjoying the feel of his warm body against the cool air of the night. Jamie steps back gently after a while, and leads her to the table and pulls out a chair for Phoebe to sit. They settle down to their meal, chatting casually with Phoebe purposefully steering the conversation away from her sisters. Jamie gives her a searching look. "I know you probably don't want to talk about it, but how are things between you and Piper?" he asks gently. Phoebe frowns. She had been looking forward to an evening that did not include her sisters or anything to do with them. "Not so great," she answers vaguely. "Is Piper still mad at you?" Phoebe shakes her head. "Prue's mad at me. Piper probably hates me."

Piper sighs and turns the TV off. Was she feeling lonely! Though she had told Prue that she wanted time to herself, Piper couldn't help wishing she had someone to talk to. Usually, on days like this when Prue was working late, she and Phoebe would spend the evening together. They both thoroughly enjoyed these moments of sisterly bonding. Thinking about Phoebe only added to Piper's distress. She frowns. Things were different now. Lately, Phoebe had avoided both of them and was spending more time with her friends and Jamie. Piper doubted that even if her sister were home, she wouldn't want much to do with her. Piper knew that she had probably just lost her relationship with her younger sister. She was going to have to learn live with that, especially if Phoebe had actually made passes on Dan. Then again, if Phoebe hadn't done anything, Piper had really hurt her.

The phone rings, forcing Piper back to reality. She answers on the first ring. "Hello, Piper speaking." "Piper, its me, Prue. Listen, can you meet me at the abandoned building on fifth and Main?" "Yeah. Why?" "I can't explain now. Just hurry. Top floor.." Whatever else, Prue was going to say was cut off by a scream and then the line went dead. "Prue, are you there? Prue!" Piper called frantically into the phone, worry spreading across her face. Piper put the phone down and grabbed her car keys and coat. She started for the door, when a thought occurred to her. 'Phoebe!' Piper shook her head. She didn't have a clue as to where Phoebe was. Piper knew that this did not matter. She could just as easily communicate with her sister telepathically. Piper shook her head again. 'No. Phoebe doesn't really care anymore! There's no point in telling her!' Piper didn't hesitate any longer. She rushed out the front door to her jeep.

Piper parked the car on the side of the road and hurried into the building. It took her a moment to find the stairs in the dimly lit area. When she finally found them she raced up to the first floor as fast as her feet would carry her. She was beginning to have misgivings over not calling Phoebe, but she still didn't want to. Piper reaches the top floor and looks around. She catches sight of a smaller stairway leading up to the roof garden. Taking a deep breath, Piper makes her way up cautiously. When she reaches the top, she peers out expecting to see her older sister, but only an uneasy silence greets her. Being as quiet as she can, Piper makes her way around a large concrete pillar. She jumps back in surprise when Phoebe steps out of the shadows. "Phoebe! What are you doing here?" "Waiting for you," comes the smug reply. Piper paused uncertainly. She wasn't sure why, but there was some kind of unfamiliarity between her and the figure in front of her. Though she and Phoebe had barely been on speaking terms for the past week, Piper knew that something was not right. Something she remembered Phoebe showing her in the BoS struck her. 'The eyes are the key to the soul!' Piper looked straight into the eyes of the person who was so much like her sister, yet so different at the same time. The eyes that stared back at her were filled with pure evil and hatred, two things Piper had never seen before in her sister's eyes. Realization dawned on her. "You're not Phoebe!" she blurted out, bluntly. "That depends. I am the Phoebe who flirted with that hunk of a boyfriend of yours, but I am not the Phoebe you yelled at," the creature cackled in a voice that was definitely not Phoebe's. Piper's stomach gave a sickening lurch when the full effect of what the creature said sunk in. This meant that Phoebe had nothing to do with anything. She had been telling the truth all along. "Why you, you impersonated my sister, making it seem that she had done something she never would," Piper sputtered angrily. The creature held up a hand as it transformed into its true form. Piper's eye widened in disgust, as 'Phoebe' became an ugly creature with wide yellow eye and long bony fingers and saliva dripping out of a toothless mouth. "All with good cause, my dear," it sneered. "Only the real Phoebe could possibly know what's happening now, but even if she did, she's too hurt and angry to even care." Piper eyes welled with tears of regret. 'I guess this is my punishment for hurting you, Pheebs,' she thought. "Sorry Pheebs, I hope you can forgive me," she whispered. Suddenly, before Piper could react, the demon lashed out and struck her on the head. The world went black.

Meanwhile..

On the other side of town, Phoebe and Jamie were having a very enjoyable evening together. Phoebe rested her head in the hollow of Jamie's shoulder as they strolled lazily along the beach. Phoebe sighed contentedly. She loved the feel of his strong arm around her waist and the sound of the waves breaking on the beach mixed with the sound of Jamie's gentle breathing. What more could she ask for. An image of her and her sisters together floated into her consciousness, causing Phoebe to frown. Those days were probably over, but what could she do? Nothing. She hadn't done anything. Thinking of her sisters triggered a premonition. Phoebe tensed as a black and white image invaded her mind. It seemed like she was on top of a tall building. She sees an ugly creature, lift up Piper. Phoebe was relieved to see that her sister's chest was rising and falling slowly. She gasped in horror as the demon pushed Piper off the ledge. Then, as soon as it had come, the image vanished. Phoebe found herself staring into Jamie's calm gaze. "What is it?" he asked with concern. Phoebe took a deep breath to compose herself. "Piper. Attacked by a warlock. Got to get to her," she stuttered, struggling to calm down. Jamie placed his hands on her shoulders. "Phoebe, calm down. Do you know where she is? Was it at home?" Phoebe shook her head. "No. I think it was the old council building on 5th and Main," she said, thinking for a moment. "Okay, lets go," Jamie says taking her hand as they run to his car. Jamie speeds on to the highway with a squeal of tires.

Jamie brings his black Camaro to an abrupt halt. They both leap out and rush straight into the building. Phoebe sees the stairs, and makes a dash for it, Jamie following. 'Thank goodness, I decided to wear trousers,' she thought to herself. By the time they reached the eighth floor, Jamie was well ahead of Phoebe. "Top," she panted. On reaching the tenth floor, they paused to catch their breath. Jamie scanned the area in search of another staircase. They found it, and taking two steps at a time, make their way to the top. They reach the top together, and Jamie, though out of breath launches himself in a flying tackle at the demon.

Piper swam through the murky, heavy waters of semi-consciousness to reach the surface. Her blurry vision picked out three figures, two of which she knew very well. Suddenly, she felt herself been pushed. The sensation of falling was the last thing she remembered before passing out again.

Phoebe cried out in horror as she watched Piper plummet down ten floors to the street below. She cringed, expecting to hear a loud thud, but it never came. She didn't have time to think about it, as she became aware of the ensuing struggle around her. She took a deep breath. "This one's for Piper," she muttered under her breath. Looking up, and forcing back tears, Phoebe began,

"Oh, evil being from Hell,
Return to where you dwell,
Be banished from this place,
So I shall never again see your face."

As she finished, smoke began to swirl round the demon. When it cleared, there was an unearthly silence. The demon was gone. Phoebe looked at Jamie, who quietly got to his feet and wordlessly wrapped his arms around her. Phoebe felt her eyes well up with tears. Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out in her head. "Phoebe, it's okay. Piper's alright." It was Leo. Phoebe pulled herself out of Jamie's arms and raced down the stairs. Jamie, though puzzled, didn't hesitate to follow. Phoebe reached the last flight and literally jumped down the last couple of steps. She hurried out the front entrance and stopped short. A feeling of dread filled her as her eyes fell on Piper's still, unmoving form. Phoebe made her way slowly towards her sister. She knelt next to Piper and pressed her fingers onto her sister's wrist. A strong pulse beat against her fingers. Phoebe let out all the breath she had been holding. "Thanks Leo," she said, telepathically. Jamie came up and gently rolled Piper over and checked her vitals. Phoebe saw both disbelief and relief register on her boyfriend's face. "It's almost like she's just out cold," he told her in amazement.

A flash of lightening, followed by the loud rumbling of thunder interrupted the moment. "It's going to rain soon. We better get out of here," Jamie says, looking up at the sky. Phoebe just nods. Jamie bends down and gently picks up Piper's limp form in his arms and carries her to his car. He lays her gently on the back seat. They get in and drive off to the manor.

Piper feels something damp press against her forehead. As her vision begins to clear, Piper makes out a familiar, but blurry figure. Piper struggles to open her eyes. She winces and shuts them again. Piper opens her eyes again, this time slower. Her vision focuses and she finds herself looking up into Phoebe's face. Piper's first impulse is to back away and scream, but she doesn't. Instead, looking into her younger sister's eyes, Piper realizes how different they were in contrast to those of the demon. Phoebe's soft brown eyes were filled with concern and apprehension. "Are you okay?" she asks, helping her sister sit up. Piper shakes her head in confusion. "The last thing I remember is falling..falling off a ten story building?" she asks in disbelief. Phoebe nods her head gravely. The color drains from Piper's face as she lets out a terrified gasp. Phoebe instantly gives her hand a squeeze. "Hey, its okay now. You're all right. It's all over," she says reassuringly. Despite her sister's comforting manner, Piper didn't miss the fact that Phoebe's face was blank. She realizes with a start why this is so. For the first time, Piper realized that Jamie was with them, and that she was at the manor. At that moment, Prue burst through the front door and headed straight into the living room. "What's going on?" she demanded, relief flooding her face when she saw Piper. Phoebe nonchalantly stood up and went over to sit with Jamie. He seemed to sense her discomfort and put an arm around her. Prue turned to Phoebe with eyebrows raised in a silent question. Phoebe nods in Piper's direction. "Ask Piper." Piper sighs. "I got a call from you, supposedly that is," she began, looking at Prue. "You or whatever.." "Logrimo," Phoebe and Jamie supply in unison. "That's his name," Phoebe explains. Prue nods, and then motions for Piper to continue. "Logrimo asked me to meet you at the building. Naturally I agreed. When I got there.." Piper trailed off, not sure how to apologize to Phoebe. A thoughtful silence ensued. "What are we going to do with Logrimo?" Prue asks, breaking the silence. Phoebe stands up and teleports out of the room. She reappears a moment later, the BoS in her hands. "He's vanquished," she says, opening the BoS and handing it to her sisters. Prue scans the page quickly. "Only chosen words from a Charmed One can vanquish him," she reads aloud. Below that was an incantation written in her youngest sister's handwriting.

Piper lets out a long and heavy sigh, gingerly touching the bruised lump on her forehead. "Ouch! I feel like someone just whacked me over the head with a baseball bat." "That's a good thing, considering what actually happened," Jamie says, exchanging glances with Phoebe, reminding her that she still owed him an explanation. "I'll explain later," she promises. Then, Phoebe glances expectantly at her hand. Sure enough, it begins to glow. She leans over, putting her glowing hand on Piper's forehead. Piper felt the throbbing in her head cease immediately. The lump disappeared. As Phoebe pulled her hand back, Jamie stood up to leave. "I think I'll get going." Phoebe walks with him to the door. "Sorry about tonight," she tells him, "It didn't work out the way we'd planned." "Well, don't be. We planned to spend time together, right? We did that, only differently." Phoebe hugged him. "You're the best." Jamie shook his head. "No Phoebe. You are. No matter what happened, you were there for your sisters when they needed you," he tells her, admiration in his voice. Phoebe shrugged dismissively. Jamie smiled. "Could I interest you in a late night cup of coffee?" he teased. Phoebe brightened up. "Why not? You can get your explanation then," she says, grabbing her coat. Jamie opens the door for her, and then closes it behind them.

Prue and Piper hear the front door open and close. Prue stands up and walks over to the window in time to see Phoebe and Jamie get into his car and drive off. Prue frowns. "What is it with her? You nearly get killed, and she pretends like she wants nothing to do with us and decides to go out," she bursts out angrily. Piper joins her at the window, a regretful look on her face. "Frankly, I don't blame her." Prue turns to her in surprise. Piper stares out the window for a moment, before turning to Prue. "Prue, it wasn't her. Logrimo was impersonating Phoebe, and it was he who was at the club that night." Prue's eyes widen. "That means that we…" Piper nodded, tears filling her eyes. "We accused Phoebe for nothing. She was telling the truth. Oh, why didn't I believe her? I should have known it wasn't her. Phoebe was the one who even encouraged me to start seeing Dan in the first place. And after all that, she still came through for me. Logrimo wanted us to think it was she. That way he could kill me because Phoebe wouldn't listen to her premonition." Prue looked at her distressed sister, feeling guilt wash over her. She knew that she hadn't been very neutral either. Thinking back to Phoebe's words the previous night, Prue couldn't help wonder why it hadn't occurred to her.

Prue and Piper absently picked at their bacon, thinking and wondering how to confront Phoebe. They both knew that Phoebe wasn't going to want to listen. "What about your jeep? Isn't it still on 5th and Main?" Prue asked suddenly. Piper shrugs. "I don't even know where my keys are." "Here," Phoebe says, coming into the kitchen. She tosses Piper's keys onto the table. "The jeep's in the driveway," she says abruptly, before turning towards the back door. "Thanks. Don't you want any breakfast?" Piper asks. Phoebe shakes her head. "I'm not hungry." Phoebe starts for the door, but Piper stops her. "Phoebe, wait. I'm really sorry.." Piper begins, but Phoebe cuts her off. "Piper don't. You don't have to do this. I don't expect an apology nor am I going to ask for one. Just one thing. I didn't save you. Leo did. You should thank him for it." "Leo, but how?" Piper asks in surprise. Phoebe shrugs. "That I don't know. Trust me, it was he. Oh yeah, I forget. You don't trust me." "Phoebe, you know that's not true," Piper protests. "To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure I know anything anymore. I must be losing my mind or something to not know where I was or what I was doing, right? But I do know one thing; a relationship is based on trust. As much as I don't want to lose my relationship with you, I don't want one because you think you're indebted to me. It's not going to work, Piper," Phoebe tells them quietly before heading out the back door.

Piper slumps back onto her chair with a despairing sigh.

Phoebe walked down the road slowly, mulling over the events of the past few days. She still had no idea of how to react towards her sisters, and was wondering if she'd been too harsh that morning. She wanted so badly to patch up things between her and Piper but she didn't want to get hurt again either. This wasn't the first time she was in this kind of situation. Phoebe was so engrossed in her thoughts that she didn't even look up until she bumped into someone. "Leo!" she exclaims in surprise. She gives him a grateful hug. "Thanks for saving Piper." Leo returns the embrace warmly. "Phoebe, we really need to talk," he begins. "Phoebe!" They turn around to see Jamie walking towards them, a look of polite interest on his face. Phoebe greets him with a soft kiss on the lips. "Jamie, this is Leo, the whitelighter I told you about," Phoebe introduces them. Recognition dawns in Jamie's eyes. Phoebe had told him all about Leo, the previous night. "Or rather, ex-whitelighter," Leo puts in wryly. "What?" Phoebe asks incredulously. "I wasn't supposed to save her. They clipped my wings as a suspension." Phoebe's eyes widen. Leo shakes his head. "It's okay, Phoebe. It doesn't matter. I couldn't let her die."

Jamie pulled his car into the driveway of Halliwell manor. Phoebe, Jamie and Leo stepped out and made their way to the front door. Phoebe exchanged glances with Leo before opening the door. She went into the living room with both guys following. Prue and Piper look up as they enter. "Leo!" Piper exclaims. "Hi Piper, Prue," Leo says quietly, looking at Phoebe. Phoebe gives him an encouraging nod, before taking Jamie's hand and leading him to the kitchen so that they could talk. Piper turns back to Leo and gives him a grateful look. "Thanks for saving me. Did you get into trouble?" she asks him. Leo nods. "Yeah. Lots. They clipped my wings temporarily." He went on to explain everything, as he had done earlier to Phoebe and Jamie. When he was done, Prue asked, "What are you going to do now?" Leo smiled with a slight shrug. "Jamie said I could stay with him. At least till I find a job." Piper raised her eyebrows in surprise. "He said that. I mean, he hardly knows you." Leo's smile grew wider. "Maybe not. But he knows all about me. I don't think there's anything he wouldn't do for Phoebe." Leo's face grew serious. "And there's nothing Phoebe wouldn't do for you either," he tells Piper quietly. Piper frowns wearily. "Leo, please. It's killing me already. Don't make it worse. Someone just tell me what I'm supposed to do." "How about talk to her? Phoebe wants to end the awkwardness between you as much as you do," Leo suggested gently. "Talking about Phoebe and Jamie, I always kinda hoped that you and I would get a second chance," he added softly. "But Leo, I'm with Dan now," Piper protests. "I know, but now that I'm mortal, I'm gonna fight for you." Piper sighs. "I'll give you a chance to prove yourself as a bar tender."

Phoebe and Jamie turn round when Leo followed by Piper and Prue enter the kitchen. "Okay, I guess?" Jamie inquires. Leo nods, giving Jamie a grateful smile. Jamie looks to Phoebe and envelops her in a long and deep kiss. She returns the compliment. Leo looks at Piper longingly, but does nothing. As they pull apart, Jamie whispers something into Phoebe's ear, causing her to smile. He takes her hand as they walk to the front door. Just before they drive off, Jamie gives Phoebe a wink. "Promise," Phoebe calls to him. Jamie holds up three fingers to his chest. "Scout's honor." Phoebe smiles back at him.

"What was that about?" Prue asks, as Phoebe closes the door behind them. Phoebe shrugs. "Nothing important," she says dismissively, making it clear to her sisters that she wasn't going to tell them. Phoebe starts for the stairs, but Piper catches her arm. "Phoebe, wait. Please." Phoebe shrugs off her arm, but doesn't storm out. "I'm listening," she says quietly, unsure of what her sisters were going to say or do. The phone rings, and Prue leaves the room to get it, glad of an excuse to leave her sisters alone. Phoebe and Piper are left alone. Phoebe gives her older sister a blank even stare. Piper takes a deep breath. "Phoebe, I really don't know how to put it, so I'll just say it." Phoebe nods, sitting on the edge of the couch. "I can't tell you how sorry I am for yelling at you for something you didn't do. Logrimo was a shapeshifter and he pretended to be you that night. I had no way of knowing that it wasn't you, but it's still no excuse for hurting you so much. Logrimo was planning to use that to cause strife between us, hoping that if your powers kicked in that you would be too mad to help out. But you did anyway. I should have known that you'd never hurt me. Can you ever forgive me? I know I've hurt you. I hate myself more than anything does for it. Just tell me how I can make it up to you," Piper says in a rush, sincerity filling her voice and tears her eyes. Phoebe reaches out and gives her sister's hand a gentle squeeze. "How about forgiving yourself?" she asks softly, tears in her own eyes. Piper grabs Phoebe's arm and pulls her into a big hug. "Pheebs, I am so sorry," Piper whispers, her voice cracking. Phoebe hugs her tighter. "It's okay, honey. I forgive you." Prue smiles from the doorway. She knows that between them, her sisters would work things out. "Boy, it sure is great to see you two actually smiling at each other," Prue says, hugging them both. "Uh, Pheebs that was Jamie calling to say that he'd be looking forward to see you keeping your part of the bargain. Whatever that means," Prue tells her questioningly. Phoebe groans and slaps a hand to her forehead. "Anyone interested in going to the ball game next week with Jamie?" she asks, silently wishing she hadn't agreed to it. "I thought you hate baseball games," Piper asks. Phoebe nods. "Exactly. Jamie bet me that before today was over, you and I would reconcile. I wasn't so sure so I said I don't know. If he won, I'd have to go to a ball game with him and believe me he did that on purpose. He knows I hate baseball. If he'd lost, it would have been dinner at the new Italian restaurant down at the pier." Prue winks at Piper. "Jamie's been hanging around you for too long. Premonitions must have rubbed off on him," Prue teases. Phoebe punches her sister on the arm. "Not funny, Prue. I just lost a dinner date at one of the best restaurants in town."
