Roy, New Mexico
Harding County WWII Veterans
Memorial Day Event

May 29th, 2004

from: Jerry Phillips, website editor

'Congratulations' to all the hard-working people involved in the preparation and presentation of yesterday's WWII Veterans Program at the Roy Community Center. It was an outstanding event and I was fortunate to be in attendance.

There were poppies, speeches, music, presentations, tributes and awards--all in honor of Harding county's veterans of WWII, both living and deceased. Six large, beautiful plaques, containing the names of over five-hundred Harding county vets, now hang on the east wall of the community center.

The very moving ceremony was attended by (I'm guessing) approximately four-hundred people. Exact numbers aside, many had to stand due to the overflowing crowd. I can't give you exact details of the event, as I wasn't there as a reporter--posting this article on the website came as an afterthought just this morning. Besides, I was too busy enjoying myself, visiting with dozens and dozens of old friends and former students, some of whom I hadn't seen in over thirty years.
After the stimulating program, there was plenty of excellent food and conversation for all.

Please use the guestbook below to add your own personal comments about the May 29th celebration.....thank you's....what was most meaningful to you,
