There was a gentle breeze sweeping across the Purple Savannah. The long, uncut waves of violet colored grass swayed in a ocean of lightening and darkening colors under the clouds that dotted the sky, being blown about by that soft wind. Some insect looking like a butterfly skipped from flower to flower before finally landing on the nose of a slumbering creature. A dark eye opened, then its twin to gaze cross eyed at the offender to the peaceful nap. "Go on, away with you..." said a drowsy voice, the pale blue of the animal's head shaking to rid itself of the bug. Scala sighed some, watching the "butterfly" get caught in the wind and taken away to new worlds unheard of. Her cold eyes narrowed before she turned her head, trying to get back to sleep again. A nice nap, that was all she wanted...but now she found she was awake, even her calming excersies weren't working in getting her heavy lids to remain comfortably shut. "Stupid merif," she grumbled as she pulled herself to her feet, stretching out long and lanky like over the shaded rock she had been dosing upon. She looked across the Savannah, slowly shaking her head as she made her way down. She had no idea where to go, what to do, everything here seemed so boring, just mundane and ordinary. Scala had exhuasted every acctivity that she could think of to keep herself from going mad on these blasted plains. And being so far away from home, she couldn't even go find her brothers or sisters to keep her company in her boredom. "WHY WON'T YOU DO SOMETHING!" she screamed out into the world. There was no answer, nothing came back to her...just the breeze swooshing through the grass. "I need to get out of here...there's got to be more to living than this," Scala sighed, stepping off the rock to walk through the grass. But as her paws set foot on the ground, Scala didn't feel the usual softness that gave under her steps. Instead it was hard, and cold, ungiving as she continued to walk forward. And as she looked to the sky she saw it darkening, the clouds growing in ominous swirls in the wind as it picked up. And there were eyes...two large, glowing eyes that started to spread open in the sky. They glowed with thunder as the clouds split again and mouth formed, a wicked grin that frightened Scala. And it opened, the eyes flashing again and a cackle of thunder echoing forth. With that laughter the wind picked up and whipped at the poor female's form like a thousand needles pricking her skin. As the wind blew more eyes and mouths joined the first pair, laughing evilly at Scala as they beat her down into the ground with the merciless wind. Scala crouched on the ground, crying. "Stop! What do you want? Please...just please stop!" But the clouds only laughed harder and sent hail and rain to pound on Scala's pale form. Tears streamed from her cheeks as she tried to stand to face the wind but was only pushed over and thrown down once more. She tumbled across the hard earth that was like steel under her. "Why won't you stop? Just...just STOP!" |
