Twice she had stood on those sands. Twice she had been left standing alone, disappointed and lost. Scala peered down from her bedroom window at the Ryslen Flurry Sands, watching the still nesting mothers turn over their broods of eggs. With worry deep in those black eyes she pondered the Cold Eggs - those touched by the girl with a forgotten mind - and the possibility that her Bond had been among them. "But I don't really think you're gone, " she whispered out into the air. "I can feel you down there. You're just not ready yet...and when you are, I will be waiting."

A yawn crossed her muzzle, and saying a mental goodnight she turned to retire to her bed. The day had been long with lessons (even though she had poured through the book a hundred times by now. Scala was answering questions before her teacher could ask them), and the worry for the Flurry Clutches hadn't helped her nerves any. "I just need a good night's sleep," she muttered as she hopped up at the foot of the bed, nuzzled her way under the jumbled covers, and appeared at the other end to lay her head on the pillow.

It wasn't overly difficult being a Melcey in the world of Ryslen. Scala wasn't new to civilization in the slightest and managed the chairs and tables and beds with ease. She was thankful for her paws, which despite the lack of thumbs were quite good at gribbing things, so she was safe to eat in the mess hall with the other novos without looking like a total barbarian. The one complication came with riding the dragon. Everyone kept asking how she'd do it. It was, after all, the only true requirement of any Rider: to be able to travel, by any means, with the dragon.

It took her some thinking, but the female Melcey came up with a plan. Rigging the straps extra short, Scala found she could sit rather comfortably on her haunches to ride. Balance became the next biggest issue, but that was something she personally needed to work on. "But if I secure an extra harness to the riding straps," she explained to her instructors. "I can be sure to remain in the seat.

She'd been studied a bit by a few scientists but...well, quite honestly the focus was on the Flurry and not her, and that was fine by Scala. It left her plenty of alone time, which the Frost almost demanded by sheer nature of alignment. Her type had never been known for their social nature, and she spent hours upon days reading through the books of Ryslen history.
