"Jayhawks"
McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita, Kansas, 1979-1990

Based at McConnell AFB, Kansas, two units of the 184th TFG have flown F-4Ds. The 127th TFS converted from F-105D/F Thunderchiefs during the winter of 1979 and, until the activation of the 177th TFTS on 1 February 1984, functioned both as an operational squadron and as the ANG F-4D Replacement Training Unit. As an operational squadron, the 127th TFS first took its F-4Ds overseas when it deployed to Southwest Asia in March 1984 for "Sentry Tornado". The 127th TFS and 177th TFTS retained their F-4Ds until converting to F-16A/B Falcons in 1990. During its eleven-year assocation with the Phantom, the 184th TFG operated no less than 65 F-4Ds and trained more than 1200 aircrews.
