Chris, a college roommate of Rob, also graduated from Notre Dame in 1995.

After graduation Chris went to work for Arthur Andersen in New York City. In the summer of 1998 Chris took a month off of work and traveled around Europe where he met many travelers from all around the world. Chris was fascinated by the stories of travelers who had spent many months at a time traveling around the world and made it a goal of his to someday take a similar trip of his own. Little did he know that the opportunity would arise so soon.

In February of 2000 Chris received a call from Rob asking what he felt about a RTW trip beginning late 2000. Chris’s immediate response was "When do we leave?".
Rob graduated from Notre Dame in 1995 and traveled with Bill through Europe after graduation.  Rob too was intrigued by the long term travelers.

After the trip, Rob went to work for Teradyne (a semiconductor testing company) in Los Angeles. After working for 5 years, Rob came to a similar "now or never" conclusion.

After many conversations while surfing in San Diego, Rob and Bill decided to really make the trip happen.
Bill graduated from Notre Dame in 1995 and went on a trip to Europe where he met many travelers who had been on the road for many months.  Most were professionals from Australia or New Zealand where it is more common to travel the world for an extended period of time.  During this trip, an idea was born.  The idea grew into this RTW trip.

Upon returning to the US, Bill went to work for Andersen Consulting in Chicago.  After a couple of years in Chicago it became clear that he needed to move west.

Bill picked up and moved to San Diego and had a surfboard before he had a job, apartment or friend in the area.

After working at Linsco Private Ledger (a broker dealer in San Diego) for 2 years, Bill realized that it was now or never.

Thus began a year of intense reading and planning.
