Beverly and I met in DesMoines, Iowa, in 1963, and were married there on June 27, 1964.
My mother wasn't able to travel, but an aunt and uncle brought my dad and sister for the wedding. One week later, we were honored at the Whitaker Family Reunion in Harlem, Georgia, where over a hundred people gathered and listened to a tape recording of our wedding, followed by a photography session.
Beverly taught fourth grade, and I worked in downtown DesMoines for USDA Dairy and Poultry Market News. Our son David was born in DesMoines. Soon after his first birthday, we moved to Missouri for my new assignment as Officer in Charge in Jefferson City. A year later, we were moved to offices in St. Louis. Our second son Mark was born that fall. We lived for five years in Kirkwood before moving to Kansas City in 1974.
