Ruari are based in Newcastle Upon Tyne and Edinburgh. Playing predominantly Irish music but with an increasing amount of matierial written by the band and from Europe. With diverse influences such as Kornog, Altan and Vasen and serious reference to contempory fields of jazz. Ruari have a sound all of their own. Members of the band have all been involved in very different areas of music. Kathryn Nicoll is a multiple award winning Scots fiddler who has been playing Irish Music for the past ten years, since deciding to move to Galway (Ireland) for a year to learn tunes!. Julian has lived in France and recorded with French, Irish and English Musicians over the years. He is an expert musician in all three traditions, as well as having a serious private passion for jazz. Ian again plays music from everywhere and as well as being one of the most 'in demand' guitarists in the country, is also a talented melodeon player and sword dancer!!! Gillian is half French, half Irish and born in Northumberland! She has been imersed in the music of these cultures from an early age. Tom Oakes as well as being a well respected Irish musician, has played wooden-flute in a Big Band and as a session jazz musician for several underground dance producers. |
