Pikachu's Page
Welcome to the homepage of Pikachu, our mascot!
Pikachu is a Rat Terrier and she loves to track and chase squirrels.  When she spots one, she makes a strange half -growl, half-whine sound deep in her throat.  She is hoping to go squirrel hunting this spring.

She'll need some training first.  She was born in May of 1999.  Our headmaster plans to take her out to the woods and work with her before he actually tries to hunt with her.  As you can see by the photos on this page, he will have a good bit of work to do.

We love our little pet.  She was a gift to us from Grandma and Grandpa and she often becomes a live specimen for animal behavior observations and training techniques.

Pikachu is registered with the Universal Kennel Club International.  You can read more about the club and this great little breed at The American Rat Terrier Kennel Club page.
Our puppy is active, tough, affectionate, intelligent...all the things anyone would want in a pet.

Here's our little Queen on her throne.  Is this the face of a World Champion Squirrel Catcher?  Only time will tell.  These dogs were orginally bred as "ratters."  That is, they took care of the rat problem around the castle.  Since we have no rats in our school, she has moved on to the next level of rodent.  We DO have a squirrel problem on the school grounds.  They gnaw on everything and try with all their might to get in to the building itself!

As you can see, Pikachu's coloring is quite unusual for a Rat Terrier.  Her father was the typical white, black, and tan variety and her mother looked like she does. Her coloring is acceptable for the breed.  We think it is the prettiest, of course.   She is the small variety of the breed (about 10-11 pounds, depending on how much begging she has done) as opposed to the toy (under 10 pounds.) When we got Pikachu, we had not had a dog in the house for over 20 years.  It was great to have access to the Internet and a terrifically patient Veterinarian to get information on all of the advances in petcare in recent years.
