Parental supervision is recommended.

This project is rated VERY EASY to do.

What You Need

Black chenille stem
Paper coffee filter
Water color paints
Paint brush
Water
Wire cutters
Needle nose pliers

How To Make It

Cut the black chenille stem in half. (You will only use 1 piece for this project)

Fold the black chenille stem in half.
Twist the bent end about 1/2" from the bend.
Accordion pleat the coffee filter in about 1/2" pleats.
Slide the butterfly in-between the black ends of the chenille stem.
Twist the black chenille stem above the butterfly to hold it in place.
Separate the ends of the black chenille stem.
Bend one end of the black chenille stem over about 1/4". Bend again.
Repeat with other end. This makes the antennas.
Fan out the butterfly's wings.
If desired, hang with yarn or fishing line to make a mobile as described above
Crafts
Pinwheels

The children may wish to decorate the pinwheels with tiny stickers before assembling them.

Parental supervision is recommended due to the straight pins!

This project is rated EASY to do.

What You Need

To make 1 pinwheel:

Colored or Clear Tabbed plastic file folder, letter size
Ruler
Thin line marker
Scissors
Needle
Straight Pin
Unsharpened pencil with eraser
Dime

How To Make It

Note: You can make about 8 pinwheels from one folder.
If short side of the folder is closed, try popping open the end. Lie the folder out flat.
Mark and cut a 4 1/2" square out of the plastic file folder.
Place the dime in the middle of the square. Trace around it.
Cut diagonally from one corner towards the opposite corner. Stop cutting when you reach the mark you made from the dime.
Repeat for following 3 corners.
You now have 4 cut sections.
Take the needle and push through the very center of the pinwheel, coming from the back of the pinwheel. (Do not push the needle all the way through, it will hold the points of the pinwheel)
Take the right corner of the first section and bend to the middle of the pinwheel. Push over the needle to hold.
Take one corner of the NEXT section and bend the right corner to the middle of the pinwheel. Push over the needle to hold.
Repeat for other two sections.
Remove from needle, carefully holding the sections together.
Push the straight pin through the front of the pinwheel completely through the back.
Push the pinwheel into the eraser of the pencil. Let the pinwheel loosen up between the corners and the back. Blow on the pinwheel and watch it spin
Pine Cone Bird Feeder
Materials needed: pine cone, peanut butter, birdseed, string

This one can get messy! Tie the string around the top of the pine cone, making sure to leave room for hanging. Spread peanut butter all over the pine cone and roll it in the birdseed. Hang it outside and watch the birds enjoy.
Homemade Wrapping Paper using Fruit and Veggie Stamping
Materials neeeded: various fruits and vegetables, ink pad (or paints or dyes--easter egg dyes work well) and paper

This one can also get messy! Get your parents to cut up various fruits and vegetables like apples and potatoes. They can also cut designs into the foods, like shapes. Press them on the ink, paint, or dye and then press onto the paper
Sea Shell Picture Frame
Materials needed: small sea shells, plain wooden picture frame that can be found at craft stores, paint, glue and magnets (optional).

At the beach, collect some small sea shells. Paint the frame whatever color or design you like. If you want, you can paint the shells too. After everything is dry, arrange the shells on the frame and glue them on. If desired, you can stick some magnets to the back to hang it on the refrigerator or file cabinet.

Don't Eat Me!
What You'll Need
Paper
Pencil
Skittles or M&M candies
4 or more friends

1. Start the game by making a chart with 9 squares of the same size -- 3 going down and 3 going across.
2. In the boxes that you drew, draw a little girl or boy's face with different expressions, such as a "happy" or "sad" face.

3. Next, put a candy on every face and have one of your friends leave the room so they can't hear you talking.

4. You and your friends should choose which face they want the person who left the room not to eat.

5. Invite the person you put in the other room to come back.

6. Tell him or her to start eating the candies ONE by ONE. When the person is going to eat the face you chose, shout out "Don't Eat Me" or you can name the faces and shout out the name instead of "Me". Repeat this and have some fun!!!
Floating Ball
What You'll Need
Straw
A Ping-Pong ball, or a small Styrofoam ball from craft store

1. Have each person take a straw, hold it in their mouth, and point it straight up.

2. Blow pretty hard through the straw to make a good air stream.

3. Set the ball gently in the air stream. The ball should float in the stream! Make sure you do not chase the ball, and just let it float in the steady stream. It won't go anywhere if you keep pointed up in one place!

4. See who can keep their ball floating for the longest. Better not laugh!
