Caleb and I flew back to Edmonton when he was eight weeks old for his renal scan. It was difficult to watch them put a tiny little IV into his itsy-bitsy little hand. The whole process took about 1.5 hours with the actual test taking about 45mins. Caleb was strapped down while the scan took place and we passed the time holding hands and singing lullabyes. I was very proud of him. He hardly cried and even smiled a little bit through the process. Our pediatric urologist met with us afterward and informed me that Caleb's multicystic kidney is non-functioning, no normal tissue at all. It does not need to be removed at this point - just observed regularly. Thankfully a new pediatric urologist has just moved to Winnipeg, so we can continue Caleb's care there. We are to meet with her in 6 months time. Our specialist stressed that Caleb was a perfectly healthy little boy - he just has one kidney (which functions perfectly).
We feel very blessed! Thanks to all of you who have prayed for Caleb and for us during our pregnancy and beyond. We appreciate your love and support so much! |
