Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release as taught by John Barnes is a technique developed to address the fascial system of the body. The fascia is the connective tissue in our body that surrounds every blood vessel, muscle, nerve, bone and organ down to the cellular level. When trauma has occured, this can be a physical trauma or an emotional trauma, the fascia begins to tighten and twist on the various soft tissues of the body, thereby creating pain and causing postural malalignments. It can put tension on adjacent pain-sensitive structures as well as on structures in far-away areas. Some people have bizarre apin symptoms that appear to be unrelated to the original complaint. These bizarre symptoms can now be understood in relationship to our understanding of the fascial system.

Myofascial Release is designed to help the fascia unwind and relieve the pressures on the soft tissue, thus relieving the pain and helping the body to return to its normal alignment and a level of homeostasis.

Myofascial Release is generally an extremely mild and gentle form of stretching that has a profound effect upon the body tissues.
