DEHYDRATION
What to look for and what to do.
One of the primary indications of dehydration is the cramping of the bodies larger muscles. This may be caused by heavy sweating which causes the loss of electrolytes. Another reason may be that not enough fluids have been replaced while sweating.
Some of the indications of dehydration are:
Very smelly urination; dark urination, infrequent urination;
Sweaty skin;
Nausea, overall weakness, lightheadedness & headache.
If you are feeling dehydrated, DO the folowing:
Get into the shade or into an air conditioned facility;
Drink an electrolyte-rich drink like Gatordae or Powerade;
Stretchy and massage the area of cramping muscle(s).
COLD WEATHER DEHYDRATION
In cold weather, it is just as important to drink fluids while training or racing as it is in hot weather.
Your body, even in cold weather, loses (water) sweat. If not replaced, you will feel the effects of dehydration.
Just as in hot weather, drink even if you do not feel thirsty.
One of the problems with cold weather dehydration is that the symptoms may not be as bad as in hot weather, and therefore you are less aware of it's effect on your body.
